G85 Package

i know a lil about my car but i dont have the G85 package... i was curious if the Cobalt SS SC with the G85 was faster or if it just eliminated the wheel hop off the line with the LSD....

It makes both wheels spin with equal power, there is less torque steer but worse wheel hop according to some who have the G85 package.

I think the G85 had pretty bad torque steer according to the C&D review/test (worse than the SRT-4). Maybe it's better than the non G85 but I wouldn't say that unless you did some type of comparison.

Without the G85 the car has loads of torque steer, I would assume there would be much less with the G85. I could be wrong though, I know what happens when I assume

I only got to drive a non G85 SS once for 15 minutes(for those that don't know I own a G85 model), so it's hard for me to compare.

There is still some torque steer sometimes, but nothing you can't overcome by simply holding onto the wheel firmly. It doesn't bother me. I don't recall it being more or less than the non G85 version.

I still can't figure out the wheel hop. It really seems most closely related to road surface. There are times I can launch and have a clean spin and other times it hops like crazy. It also seems consistent. At the end of this small street here at work, I can spin cleanly everytime, but at a light further up, I usually always get wheel hop to some degree.

The only real difference I really noticed from my G85 vs. non G85 driving is the length of the spin. I could do lengthy spins in the non G85 SS, but with mine, they are always much more breif before it takes off and pulls. And I notice the tires chrip when you floor it from a roll or when shifting to second where you get some actual spin in the non G85 SS.

So, that's my impressions.

does the lsd help when going thru tight s curves? i notice in mine that in 2nd gear going into a really hard left or right turn, the high tire will flat spin off under hard acceleration, so i have to back off, or burn off the tire. as to torque steer, thats the beauty of front drive!

I take tight turns all the time in my G85. I've never driven an non-G85 around these curves, so I don't know if the G85 is "better". I do take them hard and fast though (~60mph on some) and I've never had the tires squeal or felt the need to let off the gas. It speeds around the curves like it's nothing..I absolutely love it.

i said in second gear.....my non g85 model drives like a gocart around tight corners at 50- 100. im asking about coming out of the corner thats so tight u have to go into it in 2nd and then mash it going out, thats where the tire spin is

I couldn't tell you. I haven't found myself in such extreme racing/handling situations. I have had no problems with any cornering I have done, but I doubt it's to the extreme you seem to be asking about.
