dealer is giving me a used engine after hydrolock.

After the massive rain here in MI yesterday the highway flooded, and instead of the police closing both sides they we're pushing us through it. Well a SS balt with a CAI in 1.5 ft of water = a really bad idea. Well anyhow the car made it about halfway through and died, got out and pushed it, but it sucked enough water up to fully hydrolock the motor. It's at the dealer right now being covered by my insurance, but it's getting a new motor, not sure if they will do a new GM crate LSJ or be dumb and find a used LSJ. (lol good luck with that) After I get it back it it'll probably be going right back in for a clutch/trans. The guy at the dealer told me to do it that way, and not say anything about it being soft right now, use the water to get the insurance to replace it. Which made it worse anyway.

"just talked to the dealer again, they found a used motor already. not sure of the miles though"

Fight the used motor, tell them thats asking for trouble. However, it does depend on good of coverage you got, surprised they are covering hydrolock at all unless your blaming the cops.

well it's being covered under comprehensive so it's costing me 500$ still. But there will be some sort of a warranty on that motor i can tell you that! I knew for sure mine was taken care of and had the oil changed every 5k.... but time will tell.

The highway was flooded, and the cops failed to shut down my side, but had the other side shut down for semi's only. State farm is doing ok so far though.

I don't know if the CAI would have mattered - I know on my K&N, the CAI would not have sucked water as effectively as the lower-opening stock box on my 09. Excessive internal intercooling sucks either way.

My K&N sits right on the bottom of my fender well, so it makes sense that it was able to suck that much water up. Considering, of course the drivers side is what was lowest in the water/deepest part.... I'm making the swap to a ZZP 3in intake after I get my bad mab paid for. Oh, and a hydroshield.

Why were those cops reccommending anybody go through 1.5ft of water? Did they have an extra chromosome or something?

Well they had one side of the highway stopped, and nothing on the other so traffic was pushing through it. I was going to try and lay back and take a run at it but no go anyway. I was late for class already and could not really wait in the middle of the highway for it to clear. But yeah, they are dumbasses around here i swear.

The dealer has the new motor finally, they probably won't start on it till late today or tomorrow and have it in by Tuesday I would guess.

The one going in the car has 25k on it, compared to the car having 88.4k on it haha. If they replace the clutch too I'll be super happy.

Paying 500 bucks for the dealer to put in a used motor? I'd tell em to take a hike. When my mom lost the oil pan on her LAP due to a roadway hazard collision (lets say the state DOT got a bill from Geico) they were going to put a new engine in it brand new. But they threw an oil pan on it and filled it with oil it it was fine. We still had over 2 quarts left in the pan when we shut it off, ended up being ok. But they were going to put a new crate engine in if it was toast.

500 is what my insurance deductable is, and the dealer probably got a deal on this motor, if it sucks though you can bet they will put a crate LSJ in it!

This is why I've always ran the stock airbox, like the GM LSJ Build Book tells you to do if you're going to be driving your car in any type of wet weather.

It still would have submerged the stock box, maybe not sucked as much water but still. I'm swapping to a higher zzp intake.

I should, but I'm rather lazy lol. It's kinda true, it's brand new to me and my car, just not literally brand new.

That book also says that the lsj throwout bearing isn't normally swapped out when doing a clutch job

I would have told traffic, and the cops, to shove it, no way in hell I would take my car through a foot and a half of water, they would have to shoot me first.

Wish I could have, but they had the traffic on the shoulder going through the water, so I could not exactly stop in the middle of the highway lol.

Should have taken the intake off and tied a t shirt around the throttle body to act as a temporary SRI. Would have thrown a maf cell but at least you couldve gotten through that water.

I had tools with me, and pulled the plugs to get the water out, but it had way to much in it. Next time I sure as he'll won't go though, middle of the road or not!

you could have fought the used motor, who cares if the dealer got it at a good price, you pay $500 if your cars totalled or if you need a couple doors painted, and your insurance rate wouldn't go up any more if it was a new motor, there was no reason not to push for it

When you are late for class with really important tests that day you have no choice, I was almost late to work later too.... The mistake was not shutting her off when it stuttered once. A lowered s/c Balt made it because he cut his off and they pushed him out.
