Thumbs up GM performance upgrade

Ok I am really interested in this GM upgrade thing that I read and have been hearing about. Does anyone know more about it. What it will consist of , price, and when it will be released.

The last article car and driver did stated that GM was working on/will have an upgrade to move the stock HP from 205 to 230. But it didn't give any dates or anything specific. My guess is that it will be a pulley and a PCM tune.

Yeah, I read that article too and it sounds like GM Performance has the green light. I just hope they don't push it back like the SS/SC release dates...

Just think, this upgrade could really be up to 260hp.....

And hopefully GM is smart and doesn't let this void your warranty!

If it's a performance upgrade from GM I doubt it will void your warranty. but I bet you would get strange looks from the dealership.

for srt-4's, mopar's site says $400 for stage 1 upgrade, $1600 for stage 2. No msrp listed for stage three, but various other site have shown anywhere between $2500 and $3200. I was pricing parts for the srt-4 before i ended up going for the cobalt ss/sc. I think they wanted $175 for an intake and $250 for exhaust if im not mistaken. All you srt drivers feel free to correct any mistakes here.

Well I called GM Today. Tried to find out some details on this supposed "upgrade"

(I work for a Chevy dealer in the service dept) The guy I talked to talked with the performance guys and I got the response "We've never heard anything of this" I faxed them the article from Car & Driver and they thought it was interresting....I think they are trying to keep hush hush or I was just talking to the wrong people to get info from....:S

YeaI think i would be well worth the wait to see if GM comes out with an upgrade. I think they will cause now you have 2 cars (ion redline, SS) that are similar andare somewhat selling so it would be to there advantage. If the cost is going to be between $400 and $1500 for a stage 1 to 2 , I would not even hesitate and buy the stage 2 . Anything more and then I would have to see the gains . Here is another question(s). Has GM done this upgrade kit for any other car they made before? Also is there a reason why they would not make this , if the warranty is not voided they can make some serious coin. How long of a wait is everyone guessing for it to come out?

Maybe that is also why they have not updated that GM sponsored tuner site yet either. Maybe they are waiting for the upgrade and parts to come out....??....

Before I even consider putting an S/C in my LS I'm going to wait for this upgrade in case it works on both versions of the Ecotec (I would assume this is the case since it's the same S/C). No point in spending $4000 on a S/C now and then 6 months down the road possibly having to replace or upgrade what I've got and paying again for the additional labour.

As far as the warranty goes, I would assume being GM built and tested parts you would not void your warranty, but I read somewhere the warranty on the bolt-on S/C for the 2.2L is only one year and I would imagine the upgrade for the 2.0L would be similar but guess we'll just have to wait and see .

Nope you would keep your warrenty with any GM upgrades. The GM supercharger upgrade is only going to be around 170 HP. It's not intercooler like the SS/SC. So I wouldn't count on any upgrades ect. In fact when I was at the GM Small Car Bash they GM reps said the supercharger upgrade wasn't even avalible yet.

If I was in your position I would forget about the warrenty and go for a turbo kit.

I'm going to read the tuner guide again and lookup the part because I swear they said the bolt-on was a 60hp upgrade. As far as the turbo goes, I was hoping that if they mentioned the turbo kit from Hahn RaceCraft in their tuner guide which has been tested with the 2.2L Ecotec by GM themselves that it would not void the warranty but I'd be very careful looking into this before purchasing it.

im glad to hear gm is gonna get started with you guys. Still haven't found one in Topeka

Anyways, yea stg 3 w/toys is around 3500 bucks. That alone is 300whp/300lb. on pump. with toys, and high octane mode on its supposed to be 355, but srts with supporting mods like exhaust, throttlebody etc. are seeing anywhere up to 380 at the wheels.

I personnaly like the aftermarket turbo kits like agp, and revitup motorsports (which is making things for you guys right now)

guys gonna represent the domestic tuners very well. WOOT!

Just a guess here, but I would say from the hints in the GM book the first stage that is rumored to come out will just be a CAI and exhaust.....maybe headers and some ecu reprogramming.

Yah from what i heard its suppose to be a pulley swap, ECU reflash and you should be pushing around 18 PSI which if you go by the 1 psi=10 hp deal then thats around a 60 to 65 HP power increase and for anyone who cant do math that would equal 270 HP...didnt hear anything about the exhaust though

When is SEMA? I'm looking to buy in Feb of 06 and hoping the stage 2 is out by then....is that enough time for SEMA?
Thanks

IF I purchase before the updates are avaialable, do I loose the chance to get the updates? Or can the dealer do them after the car is built. Also does that change prices? (I'm thinking this question is aimed at the SRT-4 guys experiences, and hoping it holds for GM.)
