GM SS Manifold

Last nite I ordered the GM ported manifold from GM parts direct and just wanted to know if anyone else has this manifold? I figured $280 for this will do fine until the header aftermarket for the SS S\C picks up.

I've considered this part and the exhaust, but the only info I have found on the part was the price! I'd like to find out if it will work on my 2.4 - but that subject keeps being dodged. GM says some mods MAY be needed to install on a 2.4, nothing definite.
My friend has an S/C, I guess I'll have to crawl around under the hood with my tools to take some measurements. What I do know is that it will bolt to the head.
Let us know what you think of the part when you recieve/install it, quality/performance etc.

When you get it in can you take some pics of it. If I ever buy a header it would be this one cause it is the most reasonable priced.

whoever puts this on, take some pics of your stock manifold compared to the GM ported one. Its very possible to do this yourself if you have the necessary tools. Ive ported a set of GP manifolds myself and they came out pretty good if i say so myself.

Gmpartsdirect.com $285+ shipping cost me $291.64. The manifold combined with my 3" catback,2.8" pulley and Stage 1 should be a very nice power setup.

Thats the number that has been posted on here before as the extrude honed manifold. If you search for the exhaust systems on there as well the simply say muffler if that is why you are questioning the number.... they are 17802110 and 17802111.

unless you wanted to make a custom downpipe, since the location of the downpipe and cat are really not in a great place for a long tube

I think SMS (saturn motorsports) makes a longtube header for the redline No idea is it's compatible with our car, infact I would be inclined to think it might not because of subtle differences in that part of our cars. They have a header/downtube and transmonts for about 900 bux I think.

A long tube header is going to eliminate the "down pipe" and if your going all out with a long tube I would like to think you would consider running it without a cat. If you still want it to stay legal then you buy a small 2.5" aftermarket high flow cat and bolt it to the end of the header before it meets the rest of the exhaust. I believe Vibrant makes a cat small enough to fit up in the exhust tunnel under the car.

Anything can be made. It just comes down to who will be able to make it and have it cost efficent at the same time.

Supercharged cars don't need longtube headers. They only help with scavenging for NA motors, and won't really benefit forced induction motors, which only need to get the air out as quickly as possible, which is why the TOG piece is perfect.

How does a S/C car not benifit from an exhaust with more scavenging?

The S/C has nothing to do with exhaust exiting the engine. It still needs to get out and the more efficent the better.

I am sorry but your post makes no sense. You just said yourself that forced induction motors need to get the air out as quickly as possible.......That is exactly the concept of every motor on the planet. Get as much air in and out as possible. Regardless of how the air is coming in, the exhaust stroke of the motor still needs to get the exhaust out. A long tube header flows better than a short tube, therefore it is going to free up more power for any engine.
