Would the GMpp sport or touring work? 2) No you don't need anything else. You can run a 2.9 pulley with just stage 2. 3) Yes, just about anything other than stock exhaust. |
great thanks man. next stop ZZperformance for the 2.9 then GMPP exhaust after x-mas.

Ok, now they got S3. Lookin at CED's website and specs the kit at 248HP with 93 octane gas. Kinda pricey upgrade kit, especially only getting 3HP more with S2. As for 110 octane fuel, im sure thats gotta run an arm and a leg. So is it really worth spening the $625 or so??
|
So why is Stage 2 needed if Stage 3 comes with it's own tuned PCM and intercooler plate... besides Stage 2 coming with the smaller belt, smaller pulley and larger injectors... so let's say for someone who has a smaller pulley and a smaller belt and larger fuel injectors i'm assuming they obviously just swap out the 2 pcms and do the CASE relearn and security relearn on the Stage 3 pcm, right?

WE;; thats 2.99 inches, and I believe that the stage 2 is 2.9 inches? If so thats only a .090 diff. |
DAMN, $5.50/gal... nuts!! lol

Any ideas on fuel economy with S3?
|
What It's on A Stage 3 I all ready have the Stage 2 With the high-flow exhaust from Gm Which Sounds Nice by the way, i know what i want for christmass
|
i don't think fuel economy will be that much different while crusing. but when u open it up then the gas mileage goes down... i get about 28mpg and i have the Intense Stage 5 kit
|
oh, ok.... 28mpg is cool. Thats what I get now anyway. Just outta curiosity, whats involved in a Stage 5 kit??
|
new tune, 60lbs injectors, injector harness, 2.7" pulley (I have 3.0", 2.7" and 2.5"), larger idler pulley which u use if u don't have the GM Stage 2 belt, machined snout, ported sc housing

Do the calculations: Stage 2 = 77.9mm = 3.06 INCHES Stage 3 = 76mm = 2.99 INCHES So the Stage 2 is "3.06" and the Stage 3 is "3.0" Ian |

Stage 3 SRT-4 is around 300hp/300tq (as per the Mopar website - I don't know as much about SRT-4s so please correct me if I'm wrong). Cost is around $3719 USD Stage 3 IRL/Cobalt SS/SC is around 260hp/?tq. Cost is around ($750 + $785) $1535 USD. That leaves about $2200USD to do whatever you want - Neutral Balance Shafts, High-Speed Valve Springs, Nitrous. I don't see how dollar-for-dollar the Mopar Stage 3 blows the IRL/Cobalt Stage 3 out of the water. Ian |
i think if your worried about fuel economy you shouldnt be thinking about doing these things. sure fuel economy is a big issue but its all on how you drive ^^you said you get 28 mpg right now? i get 23 with my mods right now.

The car on the left is a Stage 3 SRT... he didn't even try very hard in this video35-120 and he hit the brakes. You can see my mods. If we would have been side by side, he would have put 5-6 on me. |
First, I wasn't trying to say that a Stage 3 IRL/Cobalt would be faster than a Stage 3 SRT-4. My intention was to indicate the price differences between the two kits (realize that I even used the FULL price of the GMPP Kit, not the Crate Engine price) and that you can't compare them apples to apples.
One costs almost $4k and the other costs $1.5k. I don't see how it's comparable... I would love to see the result of a race between SRT-4 with a MOPAR Stage 3 (No other mods) vs. an IRL/Cobalt with a Stage 3 (and $2000 in extra mods). Then we can compare cars evenly, IMHO. Ian |
