Had PCM updated today, due to check engine light.
I was cruising along on the highway, and my check engine light came on, noticed a slight loss of power. Drove right to the dealer and 2 codes were present. P0171 and P0128, one was for a lean condition, the other was for idle. The new update should fix the crazy idle on cold startup's I hope! He said my Cobalt SS/SC is the first one to come in with these 2 codes. Now, whats most important, the car feels ALOT more powerful and I am getting more boost them before. Mine is in KPa but if I were to translate it it into PSI, I am geting around 14 CONSISTENTLY NOW! after the PCM upgrade.
Just thought I would share this.
The PCM udate # is 12601774

HI ang, I bought the car at Humberview, but got the reflash done at Gateway in brampton, thats where I buy all my parts at shop price. Just go there and speak the Ramsey the service adviser, tell him Jason sent you. Tell him that your Idle on cold starts is very erratic and loopy, they will do the re-flash, I was in and out in an hour. Jason
The only difference is that I threw 2 codes, maybe that helped to get the reflash done!

I don't think 12601774 is a new calibration. I've had my SS since June, and my car came from the factory with that ECM cal.
How long have you had your car? You must have had it longer than mine if you have an older software version in there. If your car is newer than mine, then you would have had 12601774 from the factory, and the dealer didn't "update" anything.

Whats the production date on your car? They did something because my Idle is NO longer fluctuating on cold starts as I have gone out and tried it. My build date is 05/05
And how do you know that 12601774 PCM update is/not the most recent?

You're correct that 12601774 is not techncially a "new" calibration HOWEVER IT WAS the THIRD PCM calibration revision released during the 2005 model year for the 2005 SS/SC.
So for almost ANY 2005 SS/SC other than the late builds, there ARE quite possibly reflashes available that would appear to most as being "NEW". Complicating the issue is these updates WERE NOT supported by any "paper" (TSBs, PIs or campaigns) so it would take a routine check of the calibration levels in TIS or TIS2WEB to for this update to be recognized by the techncian.
The latest update is documented in TIS as correcting the following:
12601774 -New calibration with diagnostic enhancements for DTCs P0128 and P0603
and previous to that:
12598555-New calibration to improve cold start idle quality and scan tool functionality
So if you have any "Cold Drivability" issues or possibly either of the aformentioned DTCs, in a 2005 SS/SC the latest calibration (12601774) will very likely address both.
In general with almost ANY verified drivability symptom (and in the absence of any DTCs) most drivability techs will routinely check for software revisions, in hopes to rectify the condition. So if you dont like the way your car runs - BOOK IT IN!
