HALP! AWD LSJ turbo?

okay so my coworker is a very sketchy guy. he's been telling me all this **** that his friend in Virginia has just finished his AWD turbo conversion on his LSJ.

now it would be way too awkward to call BS considering i work with him every day and don't want things to be weird.

so i need to know if he's bs'ing me or is this really possible. i always thought that the concern with going RWD or AWD on a cobalt has been that there is no room for a proper driveshaft.

so i want to know whether this is even possible.

i have a feeling he's just being a bullshit artist.

so flame him away! lol

see that's the problem.

i would be all up in grillz if he wasnt someone i had to deal with all day everyday.

i just wanted to get a solid thread worth of bashing so i can leave it on his desk, instead of having to confront him face to face. lol

Leave on his desk

"Did you trade in your cobalt for an STI? and put cobalt on the back?"

Or
"Do you have 20,000 to spare on making a Cobalt AWD?"

but that is a completely built 1000 plus drag car, different story than just making an AWD LSJ get by.

it can be done..the Xgames had an AWD IRL a few year's ago in the rally cross or whatever.. you could see it sitting on the dirt when the motox guy's were doing freestyle.. it was silver. not sure if it was turbo. but it was AWD like every other car there FOR SURE!!!...

yeah i got a new motor and trans for that... but i also had a motor and AWD set up that i was gonna buy and modify it and my car to make it work.... but i would have to sell off my built motor first... cuz unfortunatly the insurance company fucked me when they decided my truck was totalled and gave me less then half its value so i got to go out and buy me another truck... and i just bought a RB26dett motor and i have my CBR on order... so cant afford to buy the engine i want for the cobalt now

I wouldn't believe it. If it was something like that, he would definately have pictures of it to back it up. If I had a friend with an awd LSJ, I know people would call me a bs artist if I told them about it. I would have photo evidence to back it up so it didn't look like I was just talking out of my ass. I say call him out and ask for pictures. If he doesn't have pictures then say you don't believe it. After all, if this guy is actually friends with the guy in VA, and the guy in VA actually has an awd LSJ, i'm PRETTY sure he can just send a simple picture through his phone...or email. Hence I think he's bsing you. Problem solved

Believe it, no. Possible yes. If you did the work yourself it could be done for well under $10,000. Probably $5,000 in parts.

This AWD setup is actually being looked at by BaldturboFreak and me. I wanting to and doing research. Saabs Aero AWD Tran would take very little to put on. Only hurtles are the driveshaft and it can run through where the exhaust does , but then where to run the exhaust. It might be cheaper to run a RWD setup I think.

u got to think about it a little more

the reason why AWD wouldbe a better set up aside from the traction is the fact that with an AWD transaxle you can keep your engine and the factory possition or close to it... if you go RWD then you have to redo the entire engine bay and hope that the engine will fit facing forward and back and the nyou got the trans. so now you wil have to modify your firewall.... and hack apart your DD to make rwd street cobalt.............. not gonna happen

AWD is a lot more fesable of an idea, and a lot easier to fabricate. Take the whole rear subframe from a sky or solstice and modify it as needed to fit. You would probably need a custom ring and pinion to keep the ratios equal.

Honestly it wouldn't be hard at all.

making the cobalt AWD wouldnt be THAT hard, you just gotta find the right tranny or get one built... as for the rear drive shaft, well just cut and make a new tunnel, probly have to make the gas tank smaller or use the trunk.

nothing monster garage couldnt do in a few days! HAHA
