Minding my own business on the interstate, and got pulled over by the popo for "exhaust amplification" It was midnight and I was out of state traveling on vacation. He gave me a written warning and didn't even ask to see registration or insurance.

I have been really careful, and actually thought that it was legal unless I romped on it or something stupid in town.

What have you all had to deal with?? Is there anything I can do when I get pulled over again?

 

I have gotten pulled over with my custom duel slp loud mouth exhaust about 3 times now and gotten nothing more than a warning. Next time i get pulled over im just going to say " Sorry officer I DRIVE A RACE CAR"

 

I was pulled over waiting for the ligh t2 blocks from my house NYC and 4 cos told me to pull over long story short he couldnt tell me what i was being pulled over for i asked to speak to his superior he said no this isnt burger king so i opened my phone and said no problem and was gona call internal affairs !!!!! Biggest mistake ever !!!! I though i was on COPS he snatched me out the car window as if i was some kind of grug dealer or like he just finished cathching me after a high speed chase !! Mase out and all i laughed in his face !!! I told him he was a joke ! They took me in let me go in 30 min they couldnt find anything on me i was clean but still decided to give me a dis con and a excessive noise summons . I asked him if he pulls over harleys and the idiot said yes and i told him for what they come from the factory that loud ! I won both at court told the judge the muffler was stock and that i have a sports car and it sounds like that from stock even took a pic in to show him !

As for the cops they are currently under investigation !! I smell burned bacon

 

i was pulled over for speeding and i got told to change my exhaust cuz its to loud....car was completely stock..lol

 

Damn that sucks man. I woulda got on it as soon as I pulled off the side of the road and let him reallly hear how loud it is.

 

i work with a cop on the side. he actually told me that anything that isnt stock from the factory IS illegal and you can get a ticket for it. but i have been pulled over like 2 times and both cops said they didnt care about the "can exhaust" as they called it! and i like the story bout burned bacon. thats always a good thing to hear cuz im not a huge fan of cops!

Not in iowa. The law in iowa is that the exhaust has to be in PROPER WORKING ORDER and under like 89 decibels for the most part.

In other states like illinois it has to be factory or its illegal lol.

 

Where can i get that in writing?? lol

iowa cops are still dicks about it... i've been pulled over passing through urbana just about every time i come home to visit the folks lol

 

Ya, I got pulled over several times for stupid things like window tint and loud exhaust but I always get outta it.

 

Got pulled over for window tint and the cop asked me why i wasn't wearing my seat belt, i told him when idiot on bikes have to wear helmets i will wear my seatbelt. I wear it most of the time, just that day i was in a bad mood and he pulled me over for a stupid reason. Still haven't paid the seatbelt ticket....

 

So what do you honestly think it is? If your not speeding, are they just looking for something to pass the time?? If its stupid loud thats one thing thing, but I guess I just dont know why they want to keep being d-bags about it

You know I have never been bothered with my Megan Cat back.. Heck there was a kid running around town with an IRL with a Muffler delete and they never bothered him!

Some cops are ****** and some aren't thats just the way it goes. Iowa laws are actually very relaxed about loud exhaust and window tint. Just grab a medical exemption for your window tint and if you get a loud exhaust ticket just simply have an exhaust shop right you up a receipt for fixing a whole in your muffler. If you present the judge with a solution it will help to get it dismissed and dropped, especially if its just as petty as a loud exhaust ticket.

I also recommend grabbing a radar detector, I use the 9500i and absolutely love it. Whenever it goes off in the summer time and I am worried about getting a ticket I just roll down my windows and put her in 5th and coast for a bit, depending on where I am in location to the cop. Whenever a cop is right behind me or very close to me I always drive with the windows down so he doesn't pull me over for no reason.

But ya, as far as the exhaust goes in iowa to drive on the highway your exhaust needs to be in WORKING ORDER, it CAN be modified but must be in working order. Most cops won't give loud exhaust tickets unless the exhaust is VERY loud when they hear it.

 

Well.. The tint thing is very touchy around here now.. the darkest you can have is 35% with a tint exemption.. Anything lower than that is illegal period

 

Sounds like the same deal around here, but its fairly simple to get out of. The shops will write a receipt for your exhaust or windows if you get cited for them. I've never gotten pulled over for my windows though and they are at 5%
I don't think the 5-0 is that uptight around here, you just need to know when and where to "play"

 

on my old car i was pulled over for having yellow head-lights. not even HIDS or anything. the cop says headlamps are supppose to be white with amber turn signals which i was fully aware of. but as he was saying that, bmw and a mercedes drove by with BLINDING BLUE HIDS... i know its from the factory... but still... so i went to my mechanic and told him bout it... 120 dollar ticket mind you. and my mechanic wrote up a diagnosis that i had bad ground wires that cause my headlamps to have a yellow TINT to them... so i showed that to the judge and ticket was dropped... I LOVE IT!!!! and yes i kept the headlamps in there and no i never drove through that town again lol

 

best one... when I had my GTP Grand Prix, the blower on it was loud as hell(open cone fenderwell CAI, swapped pulley were the source of that)... anyway, one night I was leaving a light and I take off, I got of gave it a LITTLE throttle, nothing excessive, just enough for the blower to whine a little... I go about 50 yards and I get blue lighted... knew I wasn't speeding so couldn't figure out why I was being stopped(honestly thought a brake light may have been out or something)

this royal douche comes up and asks if i'm running a muffler and a cat on my car... i'm confused(I did have a 3" downpipe, but it was catted)... I tell him yeah, and ask why he asks... he tells me "your exhaust is way too loud"... I explain to him that its NOT the exhaust he is hearing but the supercharger.... he then tells me running a supercharger on the highway is illegal(I **** you not)... I tell him "but it came stock"... and tells me "no, its illegal to sell cars with superchargers in America"... at this point I was pretty much face palming and was just at a total loss of words...

at this point I was just like "well, I guess write me a ticket then" and he is trying to tell me that he can legally have my car towed and impounded(he can't, there are no laws against modding cars here as long as you have mufflers and a cat).... apparently he watched Dateline and saw Californias laws and thought they were national law or something, lol... so anyway, at this point I'm thinking "lawsuit" so once again, i'm like "alright, call the flatbed"... but as I'm just playing dumb and letting him think he is getting somewhere, another unit pulls up... so this other cop walks up and he tells the cop "this guy is running an illegal supercharger on his car"... the cop goes "isn't that a GTP"... I interrupted and replied "yes"... the new cop says "those come stock with those"... the old cop turned white as a damn ghost and I bet felt about 3 ft. tall... so they end up running my license and crap and let me go, it was funny because the new cop came back with my license, the cop who stopped me wouldn't even walk back up there to face, I bet Barney Fife felt like a damn idiot... the new cop told me to be careful and I was on my way...

I will remember that for as long as I live, it still cracks me up thinking about it
