has anybody..

pulled their engine from the top instead of dropping the whole cradle. i started to remove all the components and got most of it done except the tranny bolts. once i get those off can it just be pulled? is the engine mounted to the frame somewhere as well? any input would be appreciated

I don't know why you would try to give yourself a headache by doing it like that. If you are that far into it, why not just unbolt the suspension (literally 3 bolts on each tower) and then unbolt the 4 bolts that hold the subframe up. Done.

BTW, try to be more descriptive in your thread title, it'll help when other newbs are trying to search.

I pulled it from the top once, biggest headache ever. Save yourself the time and stress and just drop the cradle. thats what I did this time and it was a world easier.

take it lose from at the ball joint so you dont have to bust open the brake lines and hang the caliper with wire

You don't need a lift to drop the cradle. I did that **** in my driveway and I got plenty of pictures to show.

I undid all the exhaust, electrical, cradle bolts and suspension etc etc and pulled my front bumper support off and pulled it out the front. it was super easy. if I wasnt screwing around most of the time I was doing it I coulda had it out in 2 days of working.

When i replaced my engine, i took it out from the top and dropped in from the top, dropping it back in there was a headache, i never took my transmission out so it was still chillen in the engine bay the whole time, now trying to make the engine slide in there was a pain in the *** I used an engine hoist and some jack stands at that point, i also loosened the tranny mounts and had my friend push the transmision away while i was dropping it in....Funn stuff...not really

Pics would be awesome. I've gotta pull my clutch and have never done a FWD, so it would help the OP and myself out to see it.

Ive pulled my LSJ from the top, definitely a bitch but i got it out. Once you get the tranny bolts off, separate the tranny from the engine and you'll be able to pull it right out with ease.
