has anyone done a side exit exhaust
Why not have it where you cant see the pipe coming out the side. The could just dump the pipe down and flush with bottom of the side skurt. As far as the rear just leave for now. No moding to the stock kit just incase you ever want to do somthing with it.
keep inmind that the air will be really hot and if you are going to run catless you will probably throw some flames. You will have to make sure the pipe is far enough away from your sideskirts so that you don't melt or burn them. I have never done a SEE so I don't have any first hand experience. Just voicing my concern.
I wouldn't run catless with a SEE for safety concerns, Scott.. But I see what you're saying about dumping the exhaust under the car. It's kind of like John's setup - but how does John get by it? Don't you have the same setup with the cutoff as well?
As far as the sideskirts melting, I really dont think that will be a problem. Look at the Roush kit. I will try to photoshop some pics tonight of what it might look like. I also have an idea for the rear hole.
my jetta with side exit 3" ovaled.

you shouldn't have a problem doing a side exit with a cobalt just dont go too low when it comes to suspension or you'll make a bunch of noise whilse goin over speed bumps

Yeah, I have the same exhaust setup as Jon, just my DP has a High Flow Cat on it. Jon doesn't have to through MOT where as I do so I don't want to have to take the DP off just for MOT and then put my stock one back on. If I have to do that I will do it after I test the new DP with the cutout closed first. If it passes then great. If it doesn't then I will take it home and swap out the DPs.
Yeah, dumping it out under the car I would say would be the best but that is just my opinion. I know there are cars out there with SEEs and they work fine with no melting or anything. I just don't think it would look good. Ofcoarse though I am coming from a SRT-4 stand point. I don't want some pipe hanging down below my sideskirt where it doesn't look stock. Now if it can be molded into the sideskirt so that it looks like the rouch kit then great. Not my cup of tea but I think it would still look good. And look better on your car saki rather on mine.

I believe that's what idea Jon had -- to make the exhaust look more like a Roushe setup.
Honestly, if we make it that way where the exhaust seems built into the sideskirts, then I will do it -- Considering it won't cost us that much more money. I'd have to go back to Bury and do some investigating.

Can anyone else photoshop a pic of what it would look like? I suck at the photoshop process but I have a good idea of what it would look like. Have a rectangular exhaust tip at the end of the sideskirt and a rear bumper that has the bottom part look like the there was never a cutout for the exhaust and remove the rear mesh. The rear bumper would be easy because all that needs to be done is clone the right side and remove the mesh.

Jon -
I called Carerra Bodyworks down in Bury St. Edmunds; they said that they are doing this on another car as well. He understands completely about not wanting to make some raggety ass holes for exhausts too big/small/whatever... blah blah blah. We're going to have to take a trip down to Bury for a quote though, and so he can look at it.

Send me the pics and I'll work on it. Preferably a side pic or even the first and third pic in your sig.
If done right the side exit exhaust would look sick. I wouldn't put a dummy on the other side unless it functional.
In my case I'm running the Mopar 2.5" catback exhaust. A little more free flowing over stock and it has 3" tips. With the money you save from getting a custom exhaust made you should consider a DP cutout for track use and maybe keep your existing or integrate that with the side exhaust.

But regardless, nice chop man
Thanks! It was the same shape as the mustang roush. There were others that were dual pipes coming off the side. But i don't think I could give the same affect.
Anyway this gives you an idea. Whats strange to me is how it looks longer without the rear exhaust.
