Do you have to replace the stock head gasket if you replace the bolts for head studs.

I would just do both if you plan to push a lot of boost. If you are going to take the time to replace the bolts, throw the head gasket in. As long as you haven't blown it and the head doesn't have scoring you shouldn't have to mill the head.

srt-killer,
I suppose you could just replace the bolts with headstuds, but then that would break the heagasket seal when you took out the bolts, and could cause problems down the road. I would certainly change the headgasket as the stock one has been known to be weak, and blow around 21+ psi of boost. My advice would be to spend the extra time and money and do the job right. It's ultimately your decision though. Like ParathSS said, if the head isn't warped or already leaking, there is no need to have it resurfaced. Just make sure you clean it well.

so you blew a HG with stage 2, I/E?

is your dealership helping you out at all? that sounds like warranty to me....

or are you just using this as a good reason to upgrade instead of replacing with oem?

I did all this a few months ago. It worked out great in the end. Trust me I tried the warranty ticket, but GM isn't helping anyone out anymore. Yes, that is all I had for mods other than my clutch, and GM voided my warranty even after arguing for over a month every day to make a long story short. i had to deploy as time was running short, so I took the plunge and fixed it with far superior parts. I'm a better self trained mechanic than the douche bags that work at Marathon Chevrolet anyhow. I actually have fixed all their screwups, and the car runs so much better since I started doing all my own work. My philosophy is if it breaks, build it better because if you don't it'll break again.

I am currently running a 2.7 pulley and going to be installing nitrous this week. I am going to be running a 50 shot. I am going to start saving for both the studs and gasket. In the mean time just hope for the best.lol

Just would like to note, we carry the ARP and Cometic line, the cometic gaskets are listed as a 2.2L part, however as long as you order the 87mm bore .040" thick it will work on the 2.0L
