Heat Exchanger Vs. Dual pass

I am at a crossroads guys. I know it is now time for me to upgrade my cooling system, but I am not sure if I should go with a front mount heat exchanger or the dual pass intercooler endplate. Mods are listed in my sig. What do you think I should do?

I Have no idea on this one. I was always wondering, what's gonna get you the better colling capability. The heat exchanger looks wicked awesome though. So you may want to go with that. Plus I think it's a little easier to install compared to the Dual pass, but don't quote me on that.

I've already looked into installing both and the front mounted heat exchanger is definately a lot easier to install than the dual pass. I'm just trying to figure out which one I should do first.

I would recommend the Heat Exchanger, cause its quick to do and it gives you like 15 degrees colder. I don't think you need a lot more than that, though it couldn't hurt. (And i'm saying this off the top of my head. I do not have any personal experience with it)

Who carries the heat exchanger? Is it just Cobalt Addiction or is there another vendor that offers it?

For ease put in the H/E 1st, But the endplate & Option B are The Best for Flow & Cooling.
The faster you move the fluid thru the Intercooler the better you are, The stock enplate makes the fluid go thru all 4 laminova's. The Dual pass only makes it go thru 2, Which in return gets the fluid back to the H/E quicker for cooling!

So you mean I can buy the heat exchanger from a sc/ Ford mustang Cobra and it will work? What is the difference in doing that versus buying one from Cobalt addiction? How does one for a mustang cobra go on?

You should buy an aftermarket DUAL pass HE that is meant for a Cobra. then get a 90 degree aluminum elbow for you end plate. then fab some brakets and changes for the hose inlet and outlet for the HE so it fits your car. then take off the endplate from your car. go visit an aluminum welder. Get both done!

DUAL pass end plate good for 10 degrees and up to one third gear hard pull before excessive heat, HE is good for another 10 (total 20 reduction) better staying power due to lack of heat soak with a 2.8" pulley. I would run with a 3.0 or 2.9 for autox or running on a GP track. my car had only the dual pass and ran up to 174F in 5 laps on a GP track that is about 1.3 miles long with 8 turns. I hit 174F on the end of the front stretch. then it would cool down to 150 to 160 for the rest of the track that was not WIDE OPEN THROTTLE for a long time. Top end speed was 120MPH on the front straight. My next car is going to be aimed at grand prix rather than drag racing. the cobalt is a fun and great car for this. It truly shines. Kennyspec found he was 140 tops when doing 2nd to 3rd to 4th wide open. was just great. you need a bigger expansion bottle due to the increase in fluid volume. this is real life experience.

if you want help in determining the after market HE we purchased (of ebay used for cheap) then let me know.

later

do both at the same time and save your self a pain in the ass of undoing the plumbing you already did for the h/e. Or get meth if you want more power.

Not interested in meth injection. I just want to do a cooling mod that will let me sleep alittle better at night with the mods I have. I know it's nothing extreme that is why I figured one or the other will workl just fine for now. What about Cobalt addiction's set-up? What do you all have to say about that since it comes with everything needed to install it.

If you can afford it, get the end plate now. The HE will be a cheap / easy upgrade in the future. I've got both and have the option B setup as Bill said. Works like a charm.

I think I will go with the heat exchanger for now and do the dual pass at a later time. Does the addition of a front mounted heat exchanger make the stock one obsolete or would i be running both?

I would say more benifit from the dual pass set up . This is the he i used. You just have to get some fittings and build some brackets. You run them in series with the stock one.

Not at all, you would be running your aftermarket HE in series with your stock HE. Therefore creating a dual pass HE.

You run them both thru the Stock 1>> then thru the Aftermarket 1>> Then back into the intake!
I'm basicly running a triple pass system!

So then the optimum set-up for the ehat exchanger is the use my stock one along with a dual pass heat exchanger. Got it now.

Its so funny. After you were to read this thread you would have come to absolutely ZERO conclusions as to what to do. I love when someone opens an opinion thread because it is hilarious to watch every other thread give HUGE arguments to the opposing points. LOL!

But you didn't answer the question so your post is useless.

I have another question. if a guy were to get the meth injection. would he be ok to run a smaller pulley without the use of a dual pass? I have read that the meth makes pretty much everything run ALOT cooler.

Ok, how do I always kill a thred. I suck!

I think if you started a fresh thread you might have some better luck with that.
