Help in choosing a muffler.

I know that this topic has been covered plenty but i searched and did not find exactly what i was looking for. What muffler and tip combo do you all think is the best to buy. I was leaning towards one of the borla boomers or a magnaflow muffler and tip combo. What are your guys opinions on both. Reason i ask is because im on a very limited budget and i cant afford a cat-back and i want a little bit more rumble. thanks guys.

You can get a muffler, tip combo thru magnaflowonline.com or rev2red.com

I got my exhaust custom made with pre-bent piping and a muffler from there. Best $150 I ever spent.

Go Borla, or Tsuedo if your just going for the muffler. Maganaflow sounds so-so. But a lot of people around here have borla and tsuedo and they actually sound pretty good. And not the Honda sound either. But its best just to get these short term and get the Corsa Touring. Its worth it! Whatever you do, DO NOT take the cat off if you just buy the muffler or it will sound like complete crap. To damn loud. Take it off you buy the corsa touring though.

for those who went with a custom exhaust did you use a private shop or a national brand shop?

You can use either or. But nationally known muffler shops wont touch you cat though. Private is hit or miss.

i think my budget is only going to allow me to go with a muffler unless someone knows a really good custom shop in south jersey. that being said now i need to choose a muffler and im still stuck with what brand to choose im open to suggestions with everyone else's thoughts. this is the first car that i am going to put after market equip on and screwing it up is not in my plan. also making my car sound like my moms vaccum cleaner. so once again any help would be greatfull.

Private shop. Universal magnaflow- kept the stock tip. $149 out the door.

first find out if the shop uses a mandrel tubing bender or if they crush bend the tubes. If its' mandrel it's maybe worth the extra cost, crush bent just stick with your stock pipes and use adapters if you have to. As far as tips go walmart sells those.

I had the shop (local performance place not a chain) replace the 2.25" axle back section with 2.5" mandrel bent stainless pipe. They installed my 2.5" in/out Borla turbo muffler and a stainless tip that I bought from Summit Racing. Going stainless and mandrel made it kind of pricey, but it was worth it (to me).

Sounds really good for a 4 cyl. I went universal- 2.5 inlet and outlet. No part number. Sorry.

There is a shop 20 minutes from my house that is going to build me a custom 3" cat-back exhaust, and he said he'd do it for $130.00. I haven't taken it in yet because I wanna get the ZZP Header and Downpipe, and have him put all that on while he is doing the exhaust.

The non-XL turbo muffler sounds awesome too, just a little louder because of the smaller case size.

EDIT - The non-XL's are also a lot cheaper (because they are smaller). The knock on Borla is that they are overpriced, but the MSRP on a 40653 (2.5" in/out turbo) is only 116.99 which is comparable to Magnaflow. The MSRP on a 2.5" in/out turbo XL is 193.99. Of course you can find cheaper online prices, but that's just an example.

The turbo line is good for up to a small block v8 in terms of flow.
