i went from a shory header to a clear image stainless header. the power difference is amazing, it made the car a lot more driveable and had a lot more low end. before the car would sort of lag bellow 3500rpm thenit would pick up and go (kinda felt like turbo lag), now it no longer does that it just pulls right from the time i step on it. add in a slight improvment in fuel economy as a bonus.

aparently you can get the sti catless. the clear image is an absolute gougeous peice, and its all hand built. the clear image also uses a ball socket collector, so you dont need to use a flex pipe in the exhaust.

well, i had the shorty header with a 2.5" exhaust, huge magnaflow resonator and muffler. it was a quiet but very deep tone (for about 2 days after i built the exhaust and the header cracked). the clear image header made it quite a bit louder, but its a real nice sound.

I just finished installing my clear image header/downpipe yesterday. Its so much louder than stock, no comparison. Sounds downright mean as hell. As the other user stated, there is a huge improvment performance wise. You can feel the difference just trolling around. 5th gear pulls have noticably more getup. I honestly could not believe the difference. You also cant beat the quality, its an extremely well made piece.

4 into 1, stainless steel plus downpipe with high flow cat for me.

It says they are on sale on their websight. You should call them for two reasons.

1.) THey can help you decide
2.) Beth sounds hot. NO really search around, it even says that on you tube. LOL

I dont know if I would go catless, probably not worth the hassle. From what I read, and feel free to do so googleing yourself, deleting the cat is going to save you about 1-5 HP. Every cobalt, ION, I have heard without a cat, sounds like ****. I hate to be blunt, but they really do. Makes it to RASPY. Now some people have gone without a cat and then added a resonator, and it sounds better, but your basically adding the same slight bottlenecks IMO. Plus if you delete the cat, is there provisions for the rear O2? I dont know if there is or not, but you would have to work around that if there is. Sounds like alot of trouble for no real HP/TQ improvment over a high flow cat

Just one of many sights that proves that a high flow is just as good as a straight pipe.

I greatly recommend the Clear Image setup... The "Tri-Y" is for a 2.2 or 2.4 as it produces a bit more low end torque, but does not flow good enough for a 2.0...

As far as cat or catless, I def recommend a good high flow cat. Read that article above...

The Clear Image combo comes with a really nice 590CFM high flow cat that I believe is one of the better metal substrate converters. It flows extremely well, and I doubt that it would/could case a restriction in the exhaust... Also it is less likely to clog. My custom tune dumps a lot of extra fuel top end to help cool the cylinders, which WILL clog a stock cat relatively quickly, and I have had 0 problems with this high flow cat.

The CIA combo can also be had with a 3" downpipe, and configured with a 3" or 2.5" exit. Right now I'm running a 3" DP with a 2.5" slip fit exit to bolt to the stock catback. In the future if I grab a catback, I will probably go with a 2.5" setup unless I plan even more power. The 3" to 2.5" step is nice as it promotes better exhaust scavenging, as exhaust gases cool as they move, so a step down helps them move faster...

I just got the regular steel header and DP, and painted it with high temp paint, and it still looks great after months of use... If you have the extra money, stainless is extremely nice... I highly recommend the CIA setup!

thanks guys... the rear o2 sensor doesnt bother me at all a simple tune to disable rear 02 sensor is all thts needed... as for the raspy sound i watched jkennedys you tube vid and i didnt find it to raspy at all.. and i didnt go typical bolt on exhaust but ill definitely rethink how i wanna go

Same setup I went with, except I have all stainless steel, in my area I think it will pay for itself in the long run.........

Some memebers got it coated also, gives it a nice chrome shine, but I figured hell you cant see the damn thing anyways. It is visible though, and honestly I think there is more clearance now than the stock piece.......LOL

haha... i think the t304 looks so B.A when it heats up so ill just leave it the stainless

The only thing i dont like is the step down at the end of the downpipe

the step down is to bolt to the stock exhaust. If you want to bolt it to 3" exhaust, they can accommodate that......

I didnt plan on upgrading the exhaust any more, till I got under there and found out how small it is. I read everywhere that its 2.5 except for over the axle. After being under there, I think its more like 2.25 and small step down to over the axle. It will be replaced next summer, resonator, followed by a muffler, followed by two tail pipes........
