Help...losing coolant

Ok, to start off I've never upgraded the car past stick boost. Badmab header and intake are the only mods unless you wanna count the dp and crapback I have.

I'm losing coolant somehow and I'm not sure the cause. I've been told head gasket and possibly leaking laminovas and just wanna get some more input before I tear it apart. I would say in a 3 week period the coolant tank has emptied completely. I was letting it go until this point to see how fast its disappearing. I say disappearing because there are no puddles under my car ever and I'm also not blowing any smoke from the tailpipe. Oil also smells like gas, though I'm told this can "just happen to some cars". Anyone have ideas besides the head gasket or laminovas that may be getting overlooked or encountered a similar problem to mine? I haven't got a lot of time to put into fixing this issue as its my daily and I can't have my car torn apart for a week or more.

Pull your oil cap and see if there is a yellow-ish foam on the bottom of it. Or try getting it up to operation temp and let it sit idling somewhere for a bit then move it and see if there is any puddles..

Done both, no film/foam stuff and no puddles after a stop. I'm at a complete loss here, its got to be going somewhere?

Which coolant system is it?.. The Engine Coolant or the Heat Exchanger system coolant?

Laminovas and Headgaskets aren't part of the same system.. =)

I was losing coolant from the intercooler circuit, bled through pinholes in my laminovas. Got the intake replaced under warranty. You may have the same issue.

Well, I'm not sure which one it is leaking lol the resevior by the fuse box is what I filled up and the filler neck down front never seemed to get below the full line.

I am guessing that you have a small headgasket leak. It isn't enough to cause smoking or visibly show in the oil, but if you take a sample of oil and have it analyzed I bet you will have a good amount of coolant in there.

Yes, I know lol but then the coolant stopped disappearing. Then yesterday, popped the hood and the entire resevior was drained.

I had the same problem with my LSJ. I would go a month and add like 1/4 a quart of coolant. Then I would check it 2 weeks later and have to add a quart, then 2 weeks later it would still be full, then a week later half a quart low again. My oil analysis showed high amounts of coolant in the oil, but when taking it for warranty work they wouldn't do anything. Apparently "losing" a quart or more of coolant is OK and not warrantable for GM, oh and they will not do any warranty work based on oil analysis, GM says oil analysis give you "false" information... LMAO!

Disclaimer: I am not dissing the GM mechanics in any way. It is the dealership and GM corporate that don't want to pay for warranty repairs that are the problem. There are plenty of good GM mechanics out there.

The IC circuit will drain under heavy boost- if your laminova is leaking.

Not from the Coolant reservoir. The fill neck is a closed system NOT connected to the engine coolant in any way. The reservoir should not drain unless there is an issue

are you checking after your engine is pretty hot? because that will bring down your coolant quite a bit as opposed to checking it cold..

is this a trick question?

Checked coolant both hot and cold. Was dead empty after sitting overnight. Not trying to be a smartass towards you but I'm not dumb, I know how to check fluids lol

if ur loosing coolant that fast its the head gasket i just did mine a month ago....nothing showed up i all those tests eather...wat is happening is the combustion chamber pressure is leaking into the coolant system and pushing it out the overflow vent tube..

It lets pressure out of the system...at the same time the water goes with it...yes it drains out the bottom of the reservor bottle..look in ur drivers side wheel well u might see water stains running down...just get a cometic hg from zzp and buy a can of coper spray from ur locale auto parts store and arp head studs and a case of beer and dig in..it isn't that hard
