Help me decide first real performance upgrade

Hey guys, well its bonus season for me @ work. I have approximately $1000 CAD to spend. I am torn between GMPP Exhaust with the slant cut tip and Ingalls or Stage 2. Currently all I have is just a drop in K&N filter.

The GMPP exhaust will be cheapest for me to purchase locally at my dealer and install on my own (gfs neighbour has a lift and everything), Should cost close to $700 for the exhaust and the tip.

Stage 2 I will have to order from Crate engine depot for $630 or so, then have it shipped to Canada and installed by my dealer (if I can find one that even knows what a Stage 2 kit is)..

Now I know as a quick decison Stage 2 wins due to power increase, but Im really torn because I know the GMPP is going to give me a much better sound. And I wonder if its best to have the supporting mods (Intake and Exhaust) before indulging in Stage 2. Also will the Stage 2 costs drop over time when they are more readily available??

Thanks for the input guys!

heres the deal screw the gm performance exaust

get a good exaust like corsa or something

if ur getting the exaust and tip for 700 for performance y dont u just get on turbo tech racing.com and get a corsa touring exaust for like 650

my motto go big or go home

then get the ingalls

i would say get the stage 2 but if ur stealership doesnt know what it is or how to install it they will rob u blind with installation fees and probably not even set it up right

trust me get corsa touring and ingalls

id go with the stage 2, your exhaust will be just fine with it. but if you want the sound over power then go the exhaust route.
i personally care more about the performance.

WWW.modernperfomance.com sells the magnaflow for 470 shipped. Id go that route and get the stage 1 or 2 also.

but if his stealership doesnt know what they are doing it will take all of his money and it might not even be done right????

if u have a good and responsible dealership then u can get stage 2 and ingalls but if ur dealership doesnt know what they are doing dont do it

How about that 3" header, downpipe, and catback that (forgot his name and cant find the post) posted about. He posted a dyno before and after(1 min after install so no computer relearn) and got like 8whp on a bone stock car throughout the entire powerband. He also posted a sound vid.

but is it worth it that his dealership might not know what they are doing and screw it up???

plus if they dont know what they are doing they will charge way more than it is worth

the dealership i bought from wanted to charge me 300 dollars for install and they have never done it before

i went across the river to nebraska and got it done by a dealership who knew what they were doing for 120 bucks

you have to take all this into account

yea stage 2 would be worth it but only if your dealership checks out

ask them some questions see if they halfway know what they are doing

I certainly agree that you have to do your homework in selecting a dealer to install it. You Cobalt guys have more options than us Redline owners do as there are a lot more chevy dealers around.

I just called my dealer to find out the installation cost as I have a line on the Stage 2 for $800 CAD shipped and everything. The dealer didnt know what I was talking about so he took the part number and stuff and hes going to get back to me. This could be an interesting outcome! HAHAH

Was it 8HP? It looked more like 6....:-). I was underwelmed. What is there for the computer to learn when it runs closed loop wide open.

He could always buy it himself and have the dealer just do the reflash...

well im not sure who told you 700 for gmpp catback but they need a slap

I just had my stage 2 installed (canada) for 950 installed. (pretty damn cheap)

and i was quoted $450ca (i believe retail is approx 512) for the gmpp catback

700 is wayyy inflated

i think you would be happier with stage 2 honestly

think of it this way too.....in the future you can piecemeal the other parts....ingalls is cheap. catback is relatively cheap....honed header is cheap....
basically the 1k youll drop on stage 2 is one of the biggest $$$ mods youll do

so your better off dropping the full 1k you have now on it and enjoying the big power gain.

then slowly modding with the other parts as you save up the cash.

Screw getting exhaust, get the Intense Stage 3 (or GM stage 2 + 2.8 or 2.9 inch pulley), and the Ingalls. Save the exhaust for later down the road when it actually starts becoming a bigger restriction.
