Sounds like limp mode. How high did the revs go when you downshifted? You could have damaged something or come very close to it, hence why the vehicle cut power.

Stupid question: how do you match revs when downshifting?

Be quick with your feet, lol. As I press the clutch in to shift it down, I press the gas at the same exact time to raise the RPMs. Do it quick and accurately enough and you got a smooth downshift.

So say if I were in 4th and wanted to go down to 3rd, I would press clutch in and the gas to make the rpms be where they would typically be at that speed if I were in 3rd? (wow thats a horrid explanation haha)

Yup that is right. Least that is how I do a smooth downshift. Someone else will probably come on here and give another way. Although I couldn't think of another way.

That's exactly what it is, you're basically revving the engine up while it's not under load (clutch is fully disengaged) so that when you engage the clutch the revs will be exactly where they're supposed to be. Makes it smooth, like Wes said, and really saves a lot of wear and tear on your engine and tranny.

a rule of thumb when down shifting raise the revs a grand higher. IE: you're in third at 3k and want to drop to 2nd rev it to 4k.

with practice you will acutally be able to feel where you need to rev it. i do it without even thinking.

makes down shifting feel like you are slowly applying the brake and saves your tranny.

and to be on topic: ... wow... that sucks. hopefully the rsx was too scared to race so you didnt get humiliated. similar thing happened to me one time when i was racing around some curvey roads. down-shifted hard into a corner and gunned it coming out.... everything just shut off and i had no power. an hour later after it was parked things were fine. when i say "i down-shifted hard", i mean i was going fast and quickly heel-toed to about 5,500 rpm not very smoothly. :-\

i think these cars tend to go into limp mode from time to time with hard driving. if everything seems fine now, i wouldnt worry about it too much.

I don't know if i am talking about the same thing but sometime my car does this thing where i am just driving and then this ungodly sound starts coming from my exhaust ( the loudest fart can you've ver heard) then the rps go crazy (lower than idle to up to 2500) with a huge delay in power. When i pull over the car dies. When it is restarted it is fine. ( this happens to my boyfriend's car as well)

Just something odd, i can't find any patterns to when it happens either.

I heard it has something to do with the injectors i wonder if anyone without aftermarket injectors has had the problem as well.

Happened to me once, I was just driving normally when it happened. It locked me in 3rd gear at a stop sign, crossing a busy road. I had to stomp on the gas just to accelerate fast enough to get accross the road without being T-Boned. Scary experience

lol. i really think that it has something to do with the stock ecu shutting down in performance driving situations. but im not an expert.

has anyone had this problem with aftermarket tunes or gm stage kit tunes?
