hey guys how hard to put srt-4 into cobalt
really i mean its only a 2.3 i mean how hard could it be... wouldn;t u guys say the srt 4 is easier to upgrade in the hp area i just want the engine really i think i do atleast... lol any one please correct me
impossable not really
i dont know the whole list of stuff u would need but i know u would need the motor / ecu / proully pcm / wireing schematic for it so u can make a wireing harness to convert over to the cobalt ecu / pcm harness/ or you might have to switch out all of the wireing for the car like the ignition / fuel all of that again im not a specialist and im very very sleepy
might cost alot more then it would be worth it

the peon is a dohc 2.4L Turbocharged high out put motor aka neon on steriods
what if i have a banged up srt4 and i was looking to do it ya know i mean i figure ( i'm no mechanic) just swtich out the engine, tranny and ecu u straight up throw away the cobalts ecu and what not and maybe up grade the cobalts exhaust i mean
it could prolly be done...but like stated before...alot of wiring and fuel whould have to be changed and it would be really time consuming, plus it would be a first
if i was going to ditch the LSJ it sure in the hell wouldnt be that junk dodge motor, id swap out to a 4G63
(Mitsubishi 2.0 motor) actualy it would be more along the lines of a built to the nuts 4G63 2.3 liter
with something like a FP3065 stuffed onto it

Umm, the srt4 motor is a mitsu motor....
I've thought about it, i've seen an engine and tranny on ebay for not much....But you just cant DROP IT IN and go...you have to do lots of customizing...it owuld be a lot of work and probably come out to around 5-10 grand
Edit: The new Caliber SRt4 motors arent mitsu motors...but 03-05 were mitsu motors I'm like 99% sure and iron blocks which is VERY GOOD for boost

that sealed your deal man, yes it does have a bit more potential but its just not worth it. maybe if thats what you want your car to be, but not if you just want more power and better upgradeability. youd have to almost rip every wiring harness out splice the 2 together, fabricate brackets of all sorts, make an exhaust. sounds like a good idea, some one will probly do this (maybe) but not some one who doesnt have a full garage, lifts, bays, and a lot of skill.
y wouldn't u just buy and srt-4? a buddy of mine converted his neon with the srt-4 and hes having alot of problems. it won't start and he has to re-flash the computer, and hes not even sure that would work. or...buy the 2.4 ss and turbo it? thats all an srt-4 is. turbo'd 2.4 the end.
You'd be better off just building the crap out of your ecotec motor. These motors can hold huge amounts of power without alot of custom work.
As far as actually getting the srt-4 2.4 in and making it work... you would need custom mounts, custom shift cables, custom drive shafts, alot of rewiring, and even then you could be looking at fitment issues with the hood not closing, the turbo being too close to the firewall, etc. Just seems like alot of hassle and money for a result that could be had alot easier and cheaper.

You'd basically have to strip the cobalt AND the SRT-4 and put every last component of the SRT-4 into the Cobalt shell. Engine, tranny, computers, not one single sensor in the car is going to work, so no ABS, no airbags, no power steering, no lights, no NOTHING.
Cheaper to trade in the Balt and go with the SRT-4.
it's not so much that it's easier to upgrade as it is the fact that people don't want to do the work required to handle the power. save a few headaches and spend the money on your car now.
I've actually seen an srt swap into a civic hatch....pretty cool, but a horrible waste of money. Just something to do to try and be different I guess....If you just want power, save the money build your motor and swap a turbo on there
why not just wait and swap in a LNF engine. thats what im planning on doing. b/w the turbo engine and a 6 speed tranny. by the way it would be possible to put a srt4 engine in but very hard. i could prolly figure out a way to do it, but thats in part cause im a mechanic, with a lift and all sorts of little gadgets at home. if ur not a mechanic at least i would recommend not even thinkin bout this project
