High Flow Cat vs NO Cat
well the numbers i have already are ~500cfm for a 3" downpipe with a high flow cat and then ~725cfm for the 3" catless downpipe. i would think all other compenents were the same as tested, but i am not sure so im not going to fight tooth and nail to say these are 100% true. i wasnt trying to start anything or any arguments.
a near 50% gain in flow just by removing a cat? Thats retarded....
I'd go with a high flow cat for a couple reasons. One, I see you live in California and the aftermarket cat should flow a lot better than the restrictive stock unit and also add a touch of civility to the car if you go with that setup. Second, you live in California. No cat and a giant exhaust is going to be extremely loud and obnoxious (my opinion) but will probably draw you a lot more attention... to include local law enforcement. If you can avoid that and not sacrifice much power and sound better by using a good high flow cat you should be fine.
Technically the aftermarket, non-CARB-approved cat (and even a CARB approved unit while still under powertrain emissions warranty) is illegal in California but you'd only have to worry about that if you get sent to the ref. For your normal smog inspection, if you have one coming up within the next couple years, the aftermarket high-flow cat should pass the sniffer test just fine and reduce the chance of going to the ref in the first place. If you want to go with a cat-delete, if it were me I'd install a low restriction resonator and/or high flowing muffler just to take the edge off and not be drawing attention to myself every single time I drove the car. I've seen well too often what attention that gets people in this state and others.

You should have a resonator and muffler on the car regardless of if you have a cat or not. Those will make much more of a difference to the sound and overall tone of your exhaust than having a cat. Your exhaust WILL be loud and sound like **** without a muffler/resonator.
As for passing the sniffer test - most of the time a high flow cat will fail too. If that's a concern and you don't have a buddy at the shop that can fudge the test for you, I'd get 2 downpipes and just swap come testing time.
Like I said before, it's very possible to have a clean sounding exhaust without a cat (if people still care by Tuesday I can make a walkaround vid)

Nobody asked for them. I'll try to get them up by Thursday.
ive had both cat and catless on my car. first set up was the gm extrude honed manifold, zzp 3inch downpipe with highflow cat, megan exhaust. Sounded great, very...very loud. Now i went to the midlength header from clear image with 1.75inch primaries and the 3inch catless downpipe. The car got even more loud, but less back pressure. im running a 3-2.5inch slip to run the megan exhaust for now. I get compliments on the sound of my car all the time. but especially if your running meth, look forward to shooting flames out your exhaust fast and furious style. lol
