how to add timing?

This may sound like a noob question but How do you add timing? I just ordered the Snow performance meth injection kit. I've read up on as much of this kit as I can. But one thing is.... I keep reading about timing... what is it and how do I add more? Can someone please explain this for me... thanks.

jesus. with that mod list i would hope you already know what timing is.

You need HP tuners to do it.

Well, the ECU uses sensor signals to calculate timing changes with the most influencial being the MAF (Mass air flow). You need HP Tuners and to have a professional (Don't attempt this yourself if you don't know what exactly to do) adjust maps that will change the amount of timing the ECU pulls or adds when your MAF sensor sees a particular amount of airflow.

There is alot more that goes into it all, but this is probably the easiest way to explain it to you.

It's referring to ignition timing.

When you advance timing, this means that your spark plug will begin fire sooner in the compression stroke. Retarding timing makes it fire later.

Firing sooner will cause you to have a cleaner fuel burn.

But of course, there are "degrees" of advancing that you might want to advance or retard timing.

You can utilize a EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) probe/unit to see the effects of your the timing changes. The temperature of your exhaust is a reflection of your combustion chamber temperatures but your fuel enrichment (or enleanment), IATs (Intake Air Temperatures) as well are important factors when monitoring your EGTs.

I would also use your Interceptor gauge to monitor degrees of knock while doing ignition map changes.

But like said, if you don't fully understand, do research and/or have someone help you.
What you do as far as changes can ruin your engine if you don't know what you're doing.

This is just a simple explaination though.
