how does a duall pass work?

so i see people doing a custom dual pass all the time. i bought the parts to do it as well. what i cant understand is how it flows. so when u drill the hole are u alligning it up between the 2 holes in the middle since they will be pushing the coolant inside the intake manifold. then what about the two other holes where the coolant comes out, does that mix with the cold coolant or is there a wall the seperates them form one another?

Stock system flows into the top core, down to the second, then the third, then fourth, then out.

the dual pass turns the first and fourth into the "in" and the second and third cores become the "out"

Stock is four pass, the new endplate turns it into dual pass. It's more efficient.

I may have had it backwards. John has it right, its just important that it's now dual pass.

Try this (without option B)

Blue hose is from out of the heat exchanger to the center fitting of the dual pass plate ...which makes oOOo. OOOPS lol

Biggest problem i've seen with using the center as an outlet, is that you can trap air in the manifold. If you have the top fitting as an out, any air in there will work it's way out sooner or later. Figured that out the hard way a long, long time ago.

Ital the pump was wired backwards in 04, nothing to do with the laminova plumbing. with respect.
you can plumb the plate the other way if you wish. its all in how long the coolant stays in the laminova. This is how GM plumbed it and the diagram is in the dual pass kits. Option B takes care of the air...nothing better than that...

I saw one with the routing reversed on the intercooler pump. Came out of the H/E and into the pump, then to the manifold and so on.

That is how the stock system is setup. From the HE, to the pump, to the lower port of the 4 pass endplate, out the top port of the endplate, to the coolant neck, back to the HE.

Right. The 04 redlines used the system John posted. Everything else is different.

The pluming is the same on all 04-07 and 05-08 LSJ Redlines and Cobalts. The only difference is that all 04 and some 05 RLs had the IC pump WIRES reversed. So the pump was running in the wrong direction.

Powell figured out the problem and passed it on to GM.

ya thats correct...u can see the blue hose is the cold coolant. then it goes in the dual pass, goes threw the intake manifold. then comes out of the dual pass again. then in the tee and filler neck. back down to the intercooler pump and back in the Heat exchanger
