How does the ordering process work?

If it were to come down to ordering a car...how does it work?

Do you set a price before making the order? Do you have to put a deposit down? Can someone enlighten me...

You come up with a deal with the dealership as far as price and what you want and then they order the car to be made to your specs.

You also usually have to put down a deposit of $500 - $1000, but it depends on the dealer.

You lock in your price with todays incentives, but if when the car is delivered and the incentives get better, you get the better of the 2 prices.

Heres how my story went:
  1. I went to the dealership and asked a sales guy about special ordering the car.
  2. He directed me to the dealership's inventory manager.
  3. From there, the inventory manager went to dealerworld (private dealership website) and we picked all my options. G85 will show up here, as well as any and all other available options for the car. (Note: even options that dont appear on chevrolet.com's "build and price" section)
  4. Once we had entered the order in the system, I wrote a $1000 check as a deposit and waited for the car to arrive.
  5. Once the car arrived, that is when we worked out the numbers. The $1000 deposit that I left went towards the purchase price of the car.
  6. Drove away happy!

Interesting...so you don't lock in a price until after the car arrives? Does it depend on the dealer on which point you lock in a price [before receiving the car or after receiving the car]?

Wish I could tell ya. This dealer was really helpful throughout the whole ordering and waiting process. They even called me the day the car came on the trailer just so I could take pics of it and sit in it. lol

I guess if it had been an a-hole dealership they might have made me prove I could pay for it by getting approved by a bank first, but these guys trusted me and waited on the $$$ part until the car had arrived.

If it's a decent car and not something weird and undesirable the dealer can just sell the car to someone else, if you back out. You aren't really ordering a car, the dealer is ordering a car.

It works pretty well if you just go to a dealer and tell them to find you the exact car you want. After they find it get the VIN number and go to another dealer to see if that dealer will be the price you got at the first dealer. I did this two or three times with different dealers to see what the best price I could get for a specific car. The dealer i bought it from then drove it in and two days later I had a brand new spanking car...with only a few miles on it (83miles).

^sorry this isn't ordering it, its just having them find it for you.

Yeah but it's not like this car has that many options to choose from. Most of them come standard. My question is more of a general one. What did you end up paying for yours?

It aint smart to not work out a deal first because ur not gonna be able to negotiate the price a lot. I dont think they'll even let you order one without fillin out the order form with the prices written down. I wanted to add side air bags, but i was told i need to come in and sign a new order form.

I asked them if i could let it sit on the lot for a month if i didnt want to pick it up right away. They gave me some bullshit bout pickin it up within the first 48 hours or if it came in the 20th, i gotta pick it up by the end of the month. I wanna wait for 0% APR but i care more bout wat options i want (LSD, no sunroof). I hope at least the $500 rebate changes to 1k in 6-8 weeks (how long it takes to get the car after you order it).

So you guys are sayin that i could take back my deposit if i wanted?
