how does our car regulate fuel pressure

I'm trying to figure this out since my base fuel pressure is now at 78psi, which is definitely not good. Is there a vaccuum line, or a sensor that it's based off of, or is it purely mechanical?

ASAIK there is a ball and spring type thingy in the tank. Kinda like a boost controller, once it gets to a certain pressure it pushed the ball and holds that pressure. I don't know how you'd have that much fuel pressure. Thats nuts!

it's by the pump in the back of the car, not on the rail. I just need to know how it functions, I know where it is.
I'm pulling the stock pump sunday and replacing with a walbro 255 hp (had one laying around) but I want to keep the stock fpr until my new fuel rail is ready

^this

I have a pic of it somewhere on my computer from a stock fuel module I ripped apart. Lemme find it.

Edit: huzzah!

Stock return line is connected to the part with the Oring in that pic. This is all in the tank BTW.

It won't be able to regulate the pressure to below whatever the stocker is doing.

ok I was close lol. Yeah that'll be fine just to get me through the dyno on the 29th... my stock pump is just about dead, plus as I stated my regulator is shot... but hey, 78 psi on a hp 255 at least it still flows more fuel than the stocker

Lol I hear that a lot. first motor giong in is just going to end up being stock rods and crank with diamon 9.5:1 pistons, arp head and main studs, rod bolts cometic head gasket, nuetrals, and cams... next motor will be the big power beast.... I have to move and buy a house in the next 3-5 months so money has been diverted to that (but that will be at least 2 car garage with lift woot)
