How to "Get Rid of Knock without Tuning"
How to "Get Rid of Knock without Tuning"
Well my search has finally come to an end it seems i was getting too much knock retard around 3-5 degrees throughout 3rd and 4th especially when I started to heat up well here is your answer. LUCAS OCTANE BOOSTER! I did half a tank and a little more than half a bottle. It totally eliminated my knock on my runs today couldn't be more happy. There was knock but it came inbetween shifts so it was only false knock.
Im sure, This will be good to use for dyno runs, I would like to to see the difference it makes, since the computer takes away timing if it sees knock, and on most dyno runs, there is some knock
Not exactly sure what "knock" is from what I understand it could be a couple of things, but in general it is not good.
Hope this helps.
Here try this...

Spark knock is when the incoming air fuel mix is too lean usualy caused by heated incoming air from too much boost without enough fuel. Higher octaine fuel burns slower stopping the knock. Basicly what happens is whe the piston is coming up its compressing the intake charge for the spark plug to light it off. Spark knock happens cause the cylinder temps are high and that high temp causes a premature light off of the fuel. That premature light off then impacts the flame front from the spark plug and KNOCK! Its VERY bad for your engine as it will burn a hole in your pistons if left unchecked.

and its not that you are getting rid of knock without tuning. your tune was never right in the first place. if you have to put in octane booster just to get rid of your knock, change the tune. this is why we cant run 87 in our SS/SC. the timing is advanced too much. so if you are getting knock with 93, then your timing is advanced too far. you could also add a Cobra HE and do the Dual Pass IC to help with that if I am thinking correctly.
Now im just going off the top of my head trying to remember all this from before. but do you really want to dump in a bottle of octane booster everytime you fill your car up?

And I will only use the bottle when I plan on running the car plus it makes the exhaust smell good.
Leaner AF mix means its easier for knock to happen, your aditive may halp a little but I doubt its getting rid of it. You need to be careful cause you will hurt your engine. I'm not trying to be a dick please don't take this the wrong way. I just don't want to hear in a couple months that you need new pistons.
Get this checked out and find out exactly why its knocking and get it fixed the correct way!
This additive is like a band-aid for someone whos had their throat slit! It may help a little but your dead in the end.
Isn't knock preignition, with multiple burn waves in the cylinder that send vibrations and signals to the knock sensor setting it off? I thought detonation is the fuel violently burning, like having a bomb go off in the cylinder.
Its the same thing, the UNCONTROLED pre ignition and burning of the fuel. Call it what you like its BAD!
Octane boost, or "knock out" additives arent a bandaid
the 2 easiest and cheapest ways to reduce knock is to increase your octane, and get some colder plugs. Neither are bandaid fixes.
These additives increase the octane and usually will help clear up small amounts of knock.
If you continue to run an additive to keep your octane at that higher level, and keep monitoring your KR....you wont have any problems.
