How long to bleed air from heat exchanger?
How long to bleed air from heat exchanger?
So I'm posting this here instead of the 2.2 forum cause it pertains more to the LSJ s/c system.
I installed a full supercharger kit a couple weeks ago and last week finally got it running. Being a pieced together kit everything was bone dry. I filled the cooling system through the filler neck until it stopped taking coolant. I don't have option b yet. So for the last week and a half I've been driving a little bit and refilling when I get home. I don't drive the car every day so I haven't been refilling it every day and when I do it's only a little bit at a time cause that's all it seems to hold through the filler neck.
I'm not getting any symptoms of a blown head gasket or anything like that. No white smoke. No sweet exhaust smell. It just seems to be taking a really long time to get it fully bled. I know the pump works cause I can see coolant flowing in the bottom of the filler neck but it's just not staying full. I also have an AFCO front mount heat exchanger of that helps.
So how long should it take to bleed all the air out? Do I need to do it with the car running or not? Just new to the system and looking for some advice.

Everything is plumbed properly, it's just not all the OEM formed hoses so some may be longer then what they came with from the factory. In fact I k ow the heat exchanger hoses are because they run from the driver side of the manifold to the heat exchanger nipples on the passenger side.
It seems I'm just adding fluid about a filler neck or two at a time. I've got about 1/2 gallon of dexcool, about 1/4 bottle of water wetter, and about 1/3 gallon of water. I know it takes quite a bit of coolant to fill it completely. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Haha

the intercooler system coolant is seperate from you engine coolant. So you wouldnt see symptoms of a blown head gasket or coolant smell. unless an o ring on a laminova tube is leaking but thats highly unlikely
It happened. When I bought the intake the guy had swapped 4 of the stock o-rings for something from autozone and when I tried filling it, it leaked coolant into the intake. However that problem was fixed. The blown head gasket symptoms thing was the only way I really knew how to describe coolant going through the combustion chambers.
