no

its to firm up the shifter and make it feel better with shifts, its not going to help your 1/4 lol

wait a second.... with less "throw", u can make quicker shifts. you might help out your 1/4 a bit.... not likely that u will see any major difference other than feel tho.

The short throw shifter's main purpose is to shorten the shift time between gears. The closer the gears for shifting the less time you will spend in limbo between gears. I think with a short throw you may be able to get an extra tenth or two off in the 1/4, maybe. Just makes it so that there is less time spent shifting from one gear to the next.

A short shifter should be good for a tenth of your 1/4 mile time if you are lucky.

This is exactly the point of short shifters.

When you install the short throw, does it make it harder to shift gears? The reason I ask, is because my friend has an integra rs, w/ cams, exhaust, and a short throw, and his is harder to shift into to gear than mine is.

he may want to check it out then he may have installed it wront. short throw shifters make shifting abunch easier...

example jump into your dad 81 pickup with a floor mounted 4 speed and then get into your car which one is easier to shift the long truck or short cobalt?

if you can take out even an inch thats less articulation movement

Like SilverBalt said he has a twm short shifter and i know most ppl have the B&M which is only for the 2.0 L. How many N/A ppl out there have short shifters and what brands. I have heard more than my fair share about the B&M but how good are other ppls products so that when i get the money and i want to go down that road i am not "pissing in the wind"

thats contradicting...you say wait..you make quicker shifts so it may help your 1/4 then you say more than likely you will not see any major diff. than feel...

Thats exactly what a short shifter is...its all about making the shifts more firm, and precise, while increasing your chances of not missing a gear...as for making you faster...give me a break, its not gonna do anything

yes it shortens shift, but unless you are in a coma when racing, there is no way that a short shifter will give you more than a tenth overall in the quarter, when addressing the ss/sc cobalt

ur the only one contradicting everyone else in this thread.... u might want to re-evaluate who ur are directing that to. now that we have that straight, i was partially agreeing with you by saying that realistically, you probably wont see any big difference in your 1/4. only a slight advantage.

if what you are saying is correct, precise, firm shifts, and not to mention less travel would make shifting FASTER. what a concept.

u give me a break

I disagree, I like his hood too. Very nice and alot differant then what anyone else has. Two up!

As for the short shifter, I would like to get one where I can keep my stock shift knob. IMO I like the orginal looks of the cobalt ss/sc.

bottom line to answer the thread question, its not going to help his 1/4 mile, but it will make him want to drive his car more because the shifter feels so much better than stock, it just feels more sturdy and durable, not as flimsy as stock..
