How Much Oil??

How much oil does the LSJ take for an oil change?? I just got my car back from the dealership and I was charged for 6 liters of oil. That seems like a lot to me. Is that right?

Why does this engine require so much oil? Most other 4 bangers use about 4-5

Yes 6.5 today. Took me like 20 mins to take my filter out lol sure isint like the other lsj's. My oil was BLACK totally. I will likely start changing my oil every 3000km now since I drive it hard.

Definatley have to change your oil twice as often if you drive it hard.

If you do the oil change right which is pulling the plug then pulling out the filter to let the oil that is traped up in the housing drain it should take about 6.5 everytime....but most places are lazy (even dealerships) and they will put the plug back in before pulling the filter. But then again most people will put 7qts. in for the fact your using bottled oil so with that many quarts you can end up having almost half a quart still in the bottles.

the manual says 6 for the LSJ, and 5 for the 2.2 and 2.4.

some WILL get stuck in the bottle... but that's why you should make sure you pour it all. i would start with 6 and then warm up the car and check. remember, it's better to have half a quart LESS than ideal, than half a quart MORE.

I just did my oil change last time myself. It put in 6.5 and it was right at the full mark. The book says 6.0 quarts and I saw on here people were saying 6.5 quarts in the how-to. I just bought (2) 5 quart containers at wal-mart actually, of Mobil 1. 23 bucks for 5 quarts, cheapest I found, and I get it discounted through where I work.

Read the HOW TO section. Its pretty easy if you have the right tools. Takes like, a minute or two....

I put in 6.5 quarts. If you guys are changing your oil anytime soon, get your asses over to ADVANCE AUTO PARTS. Mobil 1 5000 is $2.18 a quart!!!!
