i would recommend changing it around 50k, gm recommends the fluid be changed at 50k for sever service and we all know how we drive our cars. lol

Why not try reading the drivers manual that came with the car? There's lots of useful information in there.

LOL, why not? Some people wait till the last 5% on the oil life meter & have no problems.

Just fond out the weight of the tranny oil and use mobil1 tranny fluid

BLAZIN07SS Feb 14, 2009 09:07 PM

use OEM, you cant go wrong

GM part #88862472

Jkunzy1690 Feb 14, 2009 09:11 PM

sp should i use mobil 1 or oem?? lol opinions please

BLAZIN07SS Feb 14, 2009 09:13 PM

anything less that a 75w90 and GL4/GL5 approved fluid will screw this tranny up. requires 2 quarts BONE DRY so it should only need about 1.75 quarts

OEM ..................

flobeelicious Feb 14, 2009 09:29 PM

just did this on mine. as usual, the car isn't really designed for ease of maintenance.

I used the gm fluid - i would be shocked if the 75 w 90 was the same weight - the stock stuff was much thinner than i expected. you may need to cut down a 8 mm allen wrench as well, not a lot of room to play.

as far as fill quantity, expect to use damn near the full 2 qts. official capacity is listed as 1.9 qts, and thats just about when it started to dribble out of the upper fill hole. (filling to this point is the recommended procedure)

on a side note, the service manual also recommends using a sealant on the drain plugs - didn't notice that part until i had mine refilled.

GM stuff is the same price as Mobil 1, there's no reason to buy other stuff unless your local dealer was trying to charge $20/qt like mine was.

rukkee Feb 14, 2009 10:17 PM

OEM , i did mine cause i wanted to be safe . I used 2 quarts of the saturn oil and had just a little left over . It's hard to get all the old oil out . My tranny was noisy since new , and changing the oil quieted it down a bit .

SSPainter Feb 14, 2009 10:26 PM

i switched to royal purple at 40k took about 15min tops. Very easy

Johnboy12358 Feb 14, 2009 10:46 PM

Royal Purple sychromax or max gear 75w90?

Dainslaif Feb 15, 2009 02:01 AM

Just use the GM stuff. There's no reason to buy the more expensive oil that doesn't do anything special.

wtpcobaltss Feb 15, 2009 02:24 AM

oem...they wouldnt put the stuff in the car for no reason. i will always use oem oil, fluids. Most of the other crap is seriously just bait to make u wanna pay more for the same qualty.by miss leading titles of improved hp and fuel economy
