They're likely right about the bearing. One of those GM flaws.

The reason it costs 200 for the part is because they have to replace the entire assembly. The hub, bearing, and VSS are one unit and don't come separately.

Since you're an 07, it should be covered under the powertrain warranty unless you're over 100,000 miles. The 07+ models had the 5year/100K.

Except a bearing is a) a wear item and b) not part of the powertrain.

Shop around and do the swap yourself, the hub comes preassembled for about $125-145 if you shop around. Try rockauto.com too see what they run on there.

Pep Boys broke one of mine with a sledge as part of an inspection/repair sham and they told me it was going to be $750 . I went to the dealer and got the part for $127 and did the swap in my driveway.

^ Wow Alicia, that's fucked up!

Yeah, hub/bearing swap is one of the easier jobs on these cars. should take about 20 minutes max with basic hand tools.

There were 2 white men, 1 black man, 3 women, and an asian man getting inspections done. 3 white/black men passed. 3 women and the asian dude all failed because of a "bad hub". I'd just swapped out wheels and tires minutes before going to get it inspected and knew there were no problems. I made them show me the hub, and you could see where they'd hit and busted two of the studs in the hub and hit a couple other places with a sledge. The other 3 people paid Pep Boys to fix it, I made them give me my car, got the part from a dealer, took it back an hour later and told them if they pulled the **** again the cops would be called.

It might be a dealer to dealer thing. MOST dealers will deny it if you're outside the 3/36 bumper-to-bumper. If they don't get audited by GM they could sneak it past. If they're worried about GM denying their claim, they won't. I know at my uncle's dealership they'll cover it under the 3/36, but not under the powertrain.

There's a lot that goes into how/when warranty work gets covered. A lot of it depends on the relationship the dealer has with the person who oversees warranty claims. I've found some dealers that will cover just about anything you bring in, and some dealers go over everything with a fine tooth comb. You also might have had a different story had you gone in with 75k miles rather than 52k since they are *technically* a wear item.

I'm guessing that's what they told this guy too since they gave him a quote on cost. I'm just waiting on my last two to go. I've replaced 2 bearings in 70k, the other two are more than due to go. Watch them both have to be replaced at the same time.

i wouldnt doubt it. both of my front bearings started making grinding noises around the same time. about 50k miles.

My fronts are at 70k and still going strong, rears are what went. Which really surprises me considering I track my car on a road course. I figured the fronts would long since be gone.
