i'm addicted to cobalts now
well hello everyone, i finally decided to pop my cherry and start posting, i've been reading on this site for 6 months now, i believe i've read close to maybe 500,000 posts lol
anyways, the reason i posted in this part of the forums, well i'm buying an 07 cobalt ss/sc
in jan 07 as my personal late christmas gift to myself heh!!
and i was hoping for a gm stage 3 to come out by then but so far havn't seen any updates on it.
there are a couple of questions i have why do some people say that 3" exhaust from engine manifold to tip is bad??? is this because it hurts tq???
and also how come when people ask about bov's people just flame them and say it doesn't work and constantly quote what it does for a turbocharged engine, anyone with common sense understands how engines work and how turboed engines work, i will admit i'm a lil new to the supercharger scene but i would rather see facts and proof of why it doesn't work, not saying that if it did work somehow i would put one on i just want to see some hardcore FACTS not opinions, the same goes for the exhuast question. from everything i've read and learned about F/I cars is that the bigger more opened and faster the exhaust gases leave the combustion chamber the more efficient and power your engine will get.
and as far as turbo cobalts are concerned i think its a stupid idea!
they made a soltic for that if u want a turbo go buy that sigh
thanks
Daniel

The more boost you create the bigger exhaust piping you need. I don't think 3" would help wirth just stage 2 but say you are making 20psi boost it should then help. I make about 18.5psi and went with a 2.75" exhaust size. Hope this is helpful and welcome to the cobalt community.

Depending on you mod level, a 3inch exhaust could not be good for your setup, hurt the tq curve some, i run a 3inch exhaust, it compliments my mod level greatly. Bovs can work on superchargers centrifugal(sp) superchargers.
welcome! glad to see youre a posting now! as for turboed cobalts, might not sound so dumb, lots of people dont want to buy a roadster just for a turbo,so if you talk to the 2.4 crowd, they might disagree with the last part of your introduction, they are in fact anxiously awaiting the hahn turbo
well i have a whole plan to attack of how i'm going to do my mods
first i'm going for gmpp stage 2 1 step colder spark plugs c-a fmhe, i want to do c-a header or jbp header, then 3"downpipe/exhaust, 2.7-2.6 pully ingalls torqe dampner , i'm also ganna get the g85 package and when eaton comes out with that tvs i'm thinking about doing that as well,
the thing i'm looking at is the fact i want to eventually get to 20+psi and over 300whp so why not just get 3" exhaust to begin with???

i am also considering down the road of twincharging it, i know hahn is coming out with a twincharge setup, also so you know i have a big history with gm almost every car since i started driving has been a gm product i currently have a 2005 ls sport manuel cavy heh
but crave more power and i absolutly love how the cobalt looks

You can get the 3inch exhaust now or later, but with the tvs you wouldnt need 20psi to get to 300whp, and you might want to invest in some more supporting mods to handle the 20psi, and the 300whp, its just not about the header, exhaust pulley, etc, your going to need bigger injectors than stage 2(60lb) hour for a 2.7-2.6 pulley, axles to handle the new power, clutch, and some misc, other parts to get the full effect, gotta pay to play bro.
i forgot to add 60lbs injectors to that list
but do you really feel that i would need stronger axels?
and as far as the clutch goes i'm just ganna run the stock clutch til it burns out
i would do engine mounts and tranny mounts but i dont want cabin vibration
and i did forget to mention that i'm ganna get 3" jpb or xtc intake

I have the xtc intake, and its great, i would get some type of mount, or ingalls brace, to stop wheel hop, thats the worst enemy wheel hop, they snap axles. Many members have snaped there axles, iam not runing my car at the track with drag-radials again untill i get axles, and the exedy clutch.

I LISTED THE INGALLS TORQE DAMPNER AS ONE OF MY MODS
so what your saying is that nomatter what i do i'm ganna have cabin vibration???
there's noway to stop it?
how bad is your vibration?
and do you have engine/tranny mounts??? shortbus
thanks

All i have is the ingalls torque brace, at the tightest level, its pretty much a trade off, no wheel hop in trade for vibration, i dont have any other mounts, its pretty bad, but doesnt affect me, doesnt bother me at all.

IMO you gotta sacrifice ride for performance. Go for a ride in any high end sports car, or a highly modded one, and it will be a rougher ride. But the car will stick like glue and really put the power down. Like Shortbus said "you gotta pay to play."
if you're gonna get a 2.6/2.7 pulley and 60's injectors, why waste your money on gm stage 2 to begin with? complete contradiction for your future goals. buy hptuners so you can tune the car yourself, buy the injectors and harness, and the pulley hub and pulley instead of wasting money on stage 2 just to get different crap later on.
also, you should def lower your car and get some 16" rims with dr's for the track

First off, Do not get the DR's for the track until replacing the axles though..Our axles are very weak, if you look behind the motor at them you can see how small they are.
Secondly, There is going to be no reason for you to twincharge if you plan on going with the TVS upgraded charger. That supercharger will be plenty enough. That would be like using two turbos on a supra when one big one is more efficient.
I do agree that there is no point in getting the GM stg2 if you plan on putting 60lbers in and an even smaller pulley right off the bat. All you would need other then those two would be a good tune which would give you the 7K redline. Good luck though and I hope this helps a little. By the way...lower it and upgrade the mounts as opposed to using the damper, you will like the result much better. The damper is more of a poor mans fix if you will.

ok so you want to get to 300 huh. you know your going o have to get new internals and an ass load of other ****. I would prob find a low mileage 05 or 06 ss/sc and save like 8-10 grand. then you have al that extra money to play with when it comes time to hit your 300 hp mark. If you can find and unmolesed 05 or 6 Cobalt ss/sc for the right price you could save youreself a lot of money I can already tell your not to worried a bout your 3year/ 36K mile going out the window. just an option.
Actually, the way things are going for our cars, he won't need an ass load of stuff to get it there. Especially with the TVS Supercharger coming out. Heresa good list to go with..
-Wheel hop mods; i.e. motor an tranny mounts, coilovers ect.
-Intake
-Exhaust
-Injectors
-Tune (7K redline)
-Axles
-Clutch and Flywheel
-Soon to be release end of 07ish TVS Supercharger
That alone should get him there
