Hey i just baught my 2006 cobalt SSSC yesterday and was wondering what i can do to get increase preformance the easiest and cheapest right now. Would an intake be my best option right now or something else. And if so, any specific items to suggest?

How much I want kinda depends on the money a bit since im still in college, but id be happy with starting at a 10 to 15 hp increase. I know theres no table out there that show it, but typically with jumping up 1 hp, how much power/speed/torque (or whatever the correct term it) will you get from it?

get an injen intake and badmab header. easy to install, doesn't necessarily require tuning, but tuning is best to get up to 25hp's. other than that, please use the search button and read over this thread below

I second this...zzp s3 will make a notice able difference over stock..i think the average is like 250-260whp..
The stock exhaust is ok the only thing i would get is a zzp 3" catted dp. The stock down pipe is very restrictive..

Lots of stuff you can do and as for how much difference 1hp will make, I'd just say you probably won't notice much difference til you gain like 10whp or so and it's not going to be a huge night and day difference most of the time.

Im pretty new when it come to car performance upgrades, i read a review of it on the zzp sight. How does it work exactly. im guess that since it cools more rapidly, it will increase the hp since cooler air into the motor=higher hp?

sry to sound dumb, but i want to learn

Cooler air is more dense, so you pretty much can fit more air into the engine the colder it is. And the intake wouldn't exactly cool the air....more like your are redirecting air flow to your engine from a colder region, as well as eliminating some of the air mufflers to increase flow.

But as others have said you wouldn't feel that big of an improvement, you'd need a few more mods+tune to actually feel something

I'd honestly go with suspension mods such as new bushings and and a rear sway bar first, you won't really get a power boost but you'll be increasing the amount of power you get to the ground and you could push your car a little harder. I mean...whats the point of adding power if you can't use it out of fear for loosing control?

Airbox mod 1st blower whine ftw.it will cost you 50 to 75$ plus beer. Maybe a slight power difference...but its music to your ears.next a catted downpipe. Oh and make sure your h/e pump is working. It helps keep your iat2 temps down. Also just read the sticky on this topic.Hella info on here.

The first thing u need to do is make sure ur ic pump is working because if its not then adding anything will just be a waste of money, if ur pump is working next thing id advise to get is rotated transmission mounts, this will help elimate wheel hop and the jerkiness u get in first gear. After u done that u will then be rdy to start adding power mods.

To check ur pump turn ur car on, pop then hood and look for the filler neck that is right beside the supercharger, open it and see if the coolant is flowing. Do not mistake the shaking of coolant by the engine as flow! Cars that dont have upgraded mounts tend to have a lil shake in them, my friends lsj was like this when we checked his, and his pump was dead. Anyways of u do see it flowing u all good if u dont go to zzp's website to get a new bosch pump for around 100 dollars, dont bu it from gm they charge over 300 to 400 for the same pump.

More Horsepower-2009 Cobalt SS

Hello, I recently purchased a 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS. The main reason is because my cousin had a 09 cobalt as well. I remember he had more horsepower than the stock 260. And ive found a engine for a 09 CTS-V and im not sure should i do this or not.So is there any advice on what i should do to get more horsepower? Like performance upgrades, engine swap, blast pipe ect.

Thanks
