it doesn't look like they left much room for upgrading...it seems like they made the engine bay pretty small....nice though

hehe, a smaller S/C pulley, a better intercooler,a reprogrammed computer... toss on a CAI for good measure. You don't really need to much room to upgrade a boosted/intercooled and already forged engine baby!!

I got to get my hands on a preproduction model and play with it a little. Spent a little time in the engine compartment snooping. They are actually pretty tight in the engine compartment. The belt is gonna be a big hassle to get to, just dropping on a new pulley is gonna be alot more work than on most other cars. Very tight in there. The interior is pretty nice tho, I like how they set up the boost guage on the A-pillar. Guages are pretty good but not great. The rims look good in person too, I am usually picky about rims and I liked them. It is a pretty nice car, but in my opinion it is overpriced for what it is. It would be a nice car at around $22-23K, but it is gonna be several grand more than that. The alarm is kinda funky, but the stereo that you can get in it should be ok. All together a decent vehicle but nothing to write home about.

No pictures, I actually didn't know it was going to be there. They are being made in the same plant that the current cavs are made in. Friend of mine works there so I got free run of the plant for the day, walked the entire line and saw how the cavs are built, some cool stuff.
I got to actually start up a 4 door cobalt and here it run. The SS was partially broken down so they could figure out how to build it. The boost guage is right at the bottom of the A-pillar I like how that was. The stereo in it is really kinda funky looking, but you can get a good system with a sub right in the back. I actually got a chance to talk to some of the engineers about the problems they are having with figuring out some of the last details on how to get the car produced on the line, it was pretty sweet. The way the cars actually get built is really very interesting, they did some thing alot differently than I expected. One of the last stages that the cars go through there is actually a guy with a big rubber mallet that beats the hell out of the doors and trunk and hood to make sure they are properly aligned. Alot more stuff is done by hand than I thought would be.

So I take it the plant is in OH and that you are from OH?

Any way I can get a run of the plant?

No actually I am a New Yorker, my friend is at the plant for the summer, doing an intership, it was her birthday so I went out to celebrate with her, and she let me check out the plant. It was a Saturday but they were still running the plant because they were behind on production or something. I wish I worked there, that would be great, but unfortunately I don't.

At the present, between working full time, class, and my social life, I barely have to time to sleep.

My final is tomorrow. As soon as that is over with I will be on more.

randomguy,
Maybe I’ll just drive up to the plant and kindly ask for a tour. Maybe they will let me in. Is the Cobalt on the production line at the moment? I wonder how many they have finished.

Good Luck on your final Jonel!

Anyway...i know that there is talk about over pricing the cobaltSS....but they are probably going to give rebates like they did with the cavalier. i can't see them pricing a car 6-7,000 more than the same exact model, the redline. Granted it's gonna be much nicer

It is gonna go for several thousand more than the cav is going for now. That's what they said. I think in the mid 20's.

Cobalt is battery in the trunk as well, I believe.

But you're right. There seems to be more space under the hood of the RL.

That is not a battery. It is a jumper point. The red thing you see on it is connected to the positive terminal from the battery IN THE TRUNK.

The RL is set up the same way.

In all of the reports I've heard so far the battery in the trunk is only a redline thing, although I hope they do it to the Cobalt too as it makes for more room and better weight distribution.
