JBP Vortex Header vs CTI Racing Header
and you dont hear hardly any subbys drivin around with equal length becuase one you loose that sound for the most part and unequal have really good flow.
lets say we are looking at just 2 cylinders of an engine and this is stricly hypothetical on which cylinders....we will say cylinders 1 and 2... and they enter the collector at the end of the header's collector right next to each other. if the cylinder 1 primary is shorter than the cylinder 2 primary (even just a little bit) then the exhaust gases from cylinder 1 enter the collecter first and also create a vacuum effect pullling the gases from cylinder 2 which haven't yet entered the collecter yet....this technology has been around for a long long time and is used on Bigger motors like V6 and V8s as well as smaller motors i.e. the JBP header and 98% of all subaru header including aftermarket ones.....
so as far as the sound goes for the JBP it is most likely a combination of longtubes and the crazy bends and the fact IT IS unequal. Just remember UNEQUAL never means bad!
man i feel smart lawlz
this is only happening because i was doing a bit of research on unequal length headers and such last week because i was thinking about buying the jbp peice eventually for my build.. since it'll give my setup a bitching sound lol

I will be buying the JBP vortex header to replace my gmpp crap piece that's gonna be a nice difference. As far as the cti it looks like a great quality piece and also have heard nothing bad as far as performance. I choose jbp because of the power gains, sounds, and wicked looks.

yea honestly CTI makes awwesome stuff.. it's really a preference thing for this one
yup she sure was EJ25 2.5 liter horizantely opposed (or flat , or Boxer) engine...

(this is how i understand it. if im wrong, someone let me know)
i dont think unequal headers offer better performance... why would we see so many headers advertised as equal length then? and btw, what you're saying about the vacuum caused by 1 cylinder's primary affecting the others....thats MORE SO the case in an equal length header....its not like all 4 cylinders fire at the exact same time you know... cyl 1, then cyl 4 then cyl 2, then cyl 3 (if i remember correctly). having the exhaust pulse meet in the collector at the exact same interval every time ensures the next primary will have a slight vacuum every time. on unequal length headers, this would not be the case to the same degree.
