Kind of hard to get much better than the GM stuff. I'd just go with the GM cams. I bet a nice set of cams would really wake these cars up.

if there's a warranty concern, then i'll definately go with the GM gears... but if jbp is a better piece. i'd go with that.

Are you guys talking cams or cam gears (title says gears, but sounds like some of you are talking cams)? If cams, whats the duration?

i also am going to do the air box mod and see what I can get out of it first by dynoing the car and then see what the cams and gears will do optimumly (sp?)... wish me luck.

Cams were one of the best mods I have done to the Evo. It really opened up the top end of the car.

I would imagine it would do the same for you guys. What is the duration you are looking at getting?

I have cams and gears. The GM gears arern't that great for tuning as the etchings are very vague and not laser etched like typical AEM gears. I'd stay away from cams for Ecotecs, I had JBP cams in my Ecotec and nothing but problems and no gains.
The vacumm went in the toilet, it idled like **** and I had codes for the longest time. I went back to stockers. I dunno if its in my siggy, I 'm a newb, I have a Ecotec Grand Am with the RSM SC.

I'm looking at getting a Saturn IRL or Cobalt SS SC in the next 6 months or so.

everyone complains about cams for the ecotec, no matter which company. i've heard the crane cams only put out like 3hp!! i already put my money down, so I hope jbp's new grind works.

what about the jbp gears? any better than GM?...

JP0889 - JBP ECOTEC Precision Adjustable Timing Gears
Price: [$467.5 (US$453.48)]
JBP Introduces the first ever adjustable timing set for the ECOTEC. With the background knowledge of the ECOTEC engine and cam gear technology, we supercede the GM adjustable cam gears by offering a pair of gears made out substantially better materials, 6160 Aircraft Grade aluminum and chromolly steel gear-teeth. Our degree dial is much more accurate and legible than the GM adjustable gears and we use a higher grade locking bolts. Best of all, these fit both the 2.0L Supercharged/2.2/2.4L ECOTEC N/A engines. The best eye turner is the price and looks of our gears. We come in way under price in comparision to the product versus

Did you notice a big difference with porting the head and the valvetrain?

The only thing you get out of the valvetrain is the ability to run a bigger shot and a little added protection if you run lean.As for the head,it really improved the flow, allowed the car to open up a little accomadating the cams+ giving more torque and hp
