Just blew a headgasket
If you need some help or info let me know. I did the entire headgasket install pretty much by myself. The Cometic headgasket for the 2.2 is exactly the same as the 2.0. The 87mm bore, and .040 thickness. You'll have to call Cometic as they make them per order, but it will be at your door in less than a week. This gasket is far superior to the stock POS! That is service my friends! The Golden Eagle headstuds are better than the ARP ones because the glass bead finish give better torque accuracy. They also bolt the head down to 72FT LBS. of torque so that bitch doesn't come back off! The head will need to be resurfaced as well. If GM does the work, make sure they resurface the head or the next gasket will blow too! Good Luck bro.
Here's what you have to look foward too! Good Times!

That 1.5 week time was dedicated to the headgasket beef up I did, which in return pissed my girlfriend off because I spent more time on the car than with her right before I left!
I'm lucky she is very understanding though. That's why I love her!
06blackg85ss lol nice pic on ur myspace .. motor break in lmfao .... u know if they voided ur warrenty from ur exhaust and intake they have to prove that those parts cause the problem.... they have been dickin me around .. first it was a scratch on the pulley of the charger.. then they said they cant prove i had a pulley on there... now its ... they have a pic of my car at the track... the pic of the car at the track is a side shot with no license plate view or vin number .. its not even my car .... it was in the shop for 6 weeks ... cost me 395 bucks plus 100 for a tow cause they ripped it all apart and put the head .. charger and all other parts in the trunk... so i really hate gm right now .. theres not proof of nothing

why are so many ppl blowing head gaskets, the LSJ must be weaker than the L61
The L61 dont blow anything except rods and ring lands but you have to be above 280 crank hp to do so, the LSJ is supposed to be stronger and whatnot, whats the deal here?

The LSJ is stronger, except for the headgasket and head bolts. The rods and crank are definately stout pieces as I have got to look at them close up and personal. The pistons look like sturdy units as well. It's just the headgasket sucks. Headstuds and a Cometic gasket are the way to go. This is only the third time I've heard of this happening though. Almost every case was running high boost though.

ive got blown ring lands in my lsj ... lol have u blown any? what kinda mods?
I thankfully haven't done any motor damage yet, but I baby my car and only get on it occasionally even with all the mods I have on it... but yeah 2 cobalts around here just blew something in the motors (sounds like holes in the pistons) maybe the ringlands though... I'll find out next week when they are stripped down...
but yeah my dealer was going to fix my car,,, but since there are around 100 cobalts in the tristate area with the same problem they decided to refuse warranty work on all of them and mail out the bullshit tsb about broken axles , clutches and trannies/// funny.. when we threatened a class action lawsuit they sent that memo to all the dealerships and sent a gm rep to deny all claims.... oh well.. **** gm... I"ll build it the way I like it...

I been really considering the SS as a replacement to my supercharged Cav, im really looking into it, but I want something I can make some big time power on without blowing stuff up and having some durability, but it seems like theres issues with the clutch, axles and now the head gasket
How hard is it to install the new gasket and head studs, something i can do on my own as long as i know how to get the head off?
As far as "high boost" what amount we talking about here

Rodimus, I had a 02 supercharged Z24 when I was JBO member. Here she was:
Oh, the memories...
Anyhow, from my experience I probably wouldn't buy another SS/SC if I had to redo it all over again. I think I would have gone with a WRX TR or STi or an EVO. I would have had a bigger car payment, but I think the scooby would have at least been more reliable and taken a lot more whp's to break stuff. "High boost" would be about 20ish psi or more. Mine actually went at 15psi for some odd reason. The work involved in replacing the headgasket is tedious, but not hard. I used the GM Build book, and followed those directions to get the job done.
