Just blew motor...now im gonna ask a stupid question.
I was racing my buddies Subaru WRX "STI swap" and at the end of the race, just before i left off the throttle, i felt the power drop off. I pulled over and, at idle, my car sounded like a Subaru and had all but no power under throttle! My dipstick popped out, oil was sprayed everywhere, and heavy black/blue smoke spewed out my exhaust. Anyways, i conducted a compression test the next day and had absolutley nothing in cyclinder #2. The ground prong on the spark plug in that cylinder looked like it snapped...not melted...snapped in half. I did swap in brand new plugs right before the race, gapped @ .03. I have forged pistons, TVS w/ 2.7, meth injection, CAI, full exhaust...pushing well over 300 hp. Now for the stupid question...if i did scratch my cylinder wall badly, could i bore it out to a 2.4 liter and use the 2.4 liter N/A head? Im assuming that head is completely different but i figured i'd ask...lol. and if I can, it will obviously be ported and cammed

no you couldn't use the 2.4 head as the 2.4 has a tri-phase cam for the VVT where the 2.0 doesn't have this. the ECU wouldn't know what the hell to do. and i don't think you can tune for it but i could be mistaken on that part.

np like it essentially would bolt up but in regards to functionality it wouldn't work for the reason's i mentioned. unless the ECU could be tuned for the VVT that is.

this is a great possibility but if all you did was scratch the bore i would advise on not boring due to the fact the sleeves are so thin to begin with get a gen 2 block even though the lsj/lnf use the same sleeve it is much much stronger in the gen 2 due to the block renforcments gen2 blocks are rated to 700 hp

A few things I'd like to add...
Boring a 2.0 to 88mm bore makes it no where close to a 2.4L, the LE5 has a much longer stroke. That being said there is no reason why you can't bore it and use a 2.0 head still.
A cracked sleeve would be unlikely for your power levels IMO, but it is possible.

Well unless a 2.0 has less meat on the sleeves than a 2.2 there are quite a few serious engine builders that disagree about the ability to bore the motor.
Also, the sleeves have been proven over 400whp, so one might be cracked but it was due to tuning issues and not the HP level.

The 2.2L61 block I'm sure is the same as the LSJ, and it has been proven to hold over 400whp (boost or not boost, 400whp is 400whp), if the 2.2 can do it I'm sure the 2.0, which shares the same bore diameter, can do it as well (as GM probably uses the same sleeves).
Like I said, if a sleeve is cracked then it was caused by detonation due to a tuning issue. Unless buddy is making +420whp, which I doubt.

There have been a few guys on J-body.org that have gone over 400whp on stock sleeves. One guy was up to ~412whp until he swapped injectors and went for more, something went wrong tho and one cylinder wasn't gettin enough fuel and poped the sleeve, again tho that was a tuning issue, not HP level related.
There is one guy with the stock sleeves bored 0.040" over, not sure what his HP level is tho, but it's holding just fine. I'm not saying you can bore it out to the extreme, but 0.020-0.040" seems like it causes no issues.
