so how does that work, does it take the old airbox out and you just have an exposed filter? Wouldn't that suck up water if you were driving in rain?

Maybe they're waiting until the 2.2L version is finished so they can ship them together...still no word on that one yet . If they're on target since I sent them the e-mail inquiring about it it could possibly be out end of september as well.

I just went to a shop to find out how much this is gonna be. It was not in the system yet.
He said other Typoon systems usually go for between 400 and 500 Canadian.
Can that be right?would this be that much?
It a filter on a tube for christ sake..................

Is that a cold air for the SS/SC or a short Ram ? Because K&N says about the Typhoon that ...

Typhoon intakes come in one of three designs; cold air intakes (CA), short ram intakes (SR), or complete cold air (CCA) intakes which can be configured as either a cold air intake or a short ram intake ...

The issue involving the "oiled air filters" has been around for some time now. The problem originates not in the stock, pre-oiled air filter, but in the subsequent owner serviced cleaning/re-oiling of the filter.

If you check out brand new K&N air filter, you'll notice that is has just the right amount of oil on it. Enough to uniformly cover the cotton area and absorb into the filter, but not too much as to make it feel greasy or drip oil.

So the issue arises when people service their own filters improperly. They clean off the old oil, but then add excessive fresh oil to the now clean filter. Then they drop it into the vehicle, sometimes dripping wet.

All that extra oil gets sucked off of the filter, and into the engine. On old engines this wouldn't be a big deal, but with all the sophisticated sensors and electronics in the air intake systems of newer vehicles, it causes issues. The excess oil coates these sensors with a thin film, rendering them innaccurate and causing a CEL or poor performance. The sensors can even be ruined of they are left coated with oil long enough.

So the bottom line is this: If you take care in servicing your re-useable air filter, you won't have an issue. Just don't use too much oil, and make sure you clean it and oil it properly before re-installing it in the car. Follow those guidelines and you won't have any issues

I would say you are absolutely correct... about 95% of the time... As I state in a previous post.. I had a K&N for my SVTF.. I got a check engine light within 300miles of installation.. Before I installed it I checked the filter and it didnt appear to be over oiled out of the box... I dont know about a lot of other cars.. but on the SVTF the MAF is right behind the filter in the intake piping (Same on SS/SC)..... Makes this problem a possibility... Not a definite... Im also pretty sure that GM has a TSB regarding oiled air filters ? someone correct me if Im wrong... I would NOT let it deter you from purchasing a KN Intake.. they are for sure a high quality product... Just something to keep in mind.. No modifcation comes with 0 risk... You could always get the KN kit and put a dry filter on it later... EI AEMs new filter...

I just called K&N, the whole setup will be availble to purchase directly from K&N TOMORROW 8/24/05, however it may not be availible from retailers for a while (she says up to six months). But get the price......

The lady says it costs $378.00 plus tax!!!!!!!! That is nuts! I'm definately going with Maximum Boosts setup which has the same HP gains. Their whole setup shipped is only $199.00. I talked to Frank online last night and he says their numbers will be just as good as K&N from what he saw in testing. So lets all hope that this all turns out for the best.

Please tell me your are joking. That is approaching the price of a header, and you get more output from a header.

K&N what are you thinking?

People will buy it though

lol that's pretty expensive. I originally planned on buying the K&N, but now I'll wait for AEM and Injen to introduce their product.

I hope K&N is reading this, because you probably lost my purchase.

It's just a pipe and a filter, I'm sure their mandrel bending machines are already paid for, and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to make an intake.

It is approaching the price of a header with substantially less welding involved.
