Kobraa's build thread

Okso, getting ready to do another round of mods on my car. Generally do the bigger performance ones in late winter/spring every year since i bought my car. Now heres where im at currently
All listed parts from ZZP:
3" CAI
2.9 pulley
dual pass + opt b
phenolic
low mount ic
midlength header, catted dp
2.5" stainless exhaust w/ resonator and muffler
zzp can tune

Im wanting opinions for where to go next. Should i tvs or turbo swap? What mods would i need to make good power with both? What about e85 with either? (plenty of stations near me and anywhere id wanna go) Ive seen threads for needing brfps for both turbo swap and tvs and thread saying you dont. Ive tried the search button plenty of times so i guess im asking for your solid opinion. TVS or s256 turbo kit from zzp and what mods would i need for either with or without e85? I know plenty of people on here have gone both ways with their LSJ. I want your input. Thanks! For everyone else, see you when im posting pictures of shiny new parts

I'm TVS right now, with a turbo heading my way in the next few days. I'll give my $0.02 on it. It all depends on your goals to be honest. I'm on TVS with the 2.9 and 80#'s and no brfps and it runs just fine, and is a blast to drive, and in my area that settup is plenty to pull almost anything.

I sold a few toys of mine this year, and getting a free daily from my dad and decided it's time to turn the balt into a project. I originally wanted to do a TVS build. It would be something fun, and unique and then I started to dig a bit more. With the time, money and effort I would have to put in to break 400hp it just wasn't the route I wanted to go, and at that point, I'd really be nearing the end of the road with the TVS anyway, so I decided to switch over to the turbo, as this is a project car that I'd like to have for years and tinker with, improve and make faster. That's just something I didn't see as a possibility with the TVS. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty I could have done with it, it just didn't suit my long-term goal.

So I guess a spark-noted version of that is to take a look at your goals. I'd read some build threads of different people, see what's possible, and what kind of results it yields, and then you'll be able to decide what you want to do. Either way you can't go wrong though.

Yeah, if you're rocking the ZZP canned tune, I'd definitely get that taken care of as well. Nothing better than a tune written specifically for your settup.

Thanks for the input guys. i really appreciate something other than "search button" WVU thats exactly was i was looking for. Blue, i will keep that in mind. Really leaning toward e85. WVU, any idea what kind of power you were making on that 2.9 with 80s?

And as far as goals, im not looking to make crazy numbers. 300 is a good soft number in my head.

Nice man! I'm excited to see a new build thread on here.
300 is easily attainable for a soft goal. I'd do e85 if it's readily available to you for sure.
As far as power goes, I've not dyno'd yet. I may head out here in the next few weeks to get you a number, however IMO a dyno is all relative. I want to do it so I can compare TVS to turbo numbers, a number on it's own isn't worth a whole lot as dyno's read differently from dyno to dyno. That being said a conservative guess on mine would be 330. I've seen a few builds where people were close to 370 with cams and head work.

Think im gonna stick to 93 for a little while after this just to get some cash built back up. Cause e85 needs what 80#s, a new fuel pump, and wideband right?

80's and wide and are minimum, if your in a modified car you should have a wide and anyway.

A new fuel pump is. Good idea though

Yup what Haven said. My IDC is 103% at readline at WOT. I can't remember where they were when I ran 93. Never ran the stock pulley so I don't have any insight on that one for you. Adn if you're modifying you need a wideband for a HPT, as that's how you'll dial in WOT.

I'll keep that in mind. Gonna hold off on e85 for the time being i think. Got room in the budget for wideband so ill tack that on there while i have everything apart. Gonna be dropping my cradle when this happens to put a clutch in. Have a buddy who is good with a welder have him weld me a bung for the wideband while its down. Plan on a 2.8 pulley on the TVS. Also gonna clean up some of my dual pass piping while its all torn apart, make it look a little nicer. The guy i bought the tvs from threw in an ls4 with it. Unsure if ill use it, read mixed reviews on it.

my idc are ~95% at 7750rpm on e85 with 1200cc's at 43psi base pressure and ~20psi boost (~63psi WOT). Hoping the aem320 can keep up if we need to up the base pressure a bit when I rev out all the way.

I had 60's, 80s, and ID1k and never ran any of them. My build kept getting more and more out of hand and I needed more and more fuel. lol that's the one thing that sucks about big suercharged builds. Fuel on fuel on fuel haha
