oh hay random question time:

there is a heater deal thing near the oil filter. square in shape, oil and coolant lines run through it? wtf is it? is it to heat up the coolant or the oil? any reason to just... snip it off?

bmxracerchamp12 02-21-2014 02:47 PM

its the oil cooler

riceburner 02-21-2014 02:53 PM

oh so it COOLs the oil? ok neat. i thought it was there to help heat the engine up faster or the heat the oil (which would be dumb so obvs its not that)

sandman 02-21-2014 02:54 PM

If you really enjoy it money isnt a matter

BlackielawlessSS 02-21-2014 02:56 PM

Hurry up and get busy

idk if you saw my pics from a few pages back but minus the pistons looking dirty and a ring of carbon buildup (plan to clean) the cylinder sleeves look great

who knows..

no chance of being able to slap a set of pistons in is there? i'd need new rods, yes? and at that point well i may as well sleeve the MF but i wanna be on the road in march

Definitely measure them. I'm just replying to your comment better safe than sorry. Pistons still fatigue and wear like all other internal parts. It's the chance you take pushing higher mileage parts. Just measure everything before you put it back together to make sure all is good before reassembling no matter which route you take. Stock rods can be reused as long as they look and measure ok.

the oil cooler is blah I got rid of it and now the engine runs cooler and so does the oil now that the oil cooler out front

riceburner 02-21-2014 03:38 PM

ok so i dont feel too dumb for asking that one lol

riceburner 02-23-2014 10:34 PM

ok update time :D

tonight we got the ole' crank out. my oem bearings all look perfect so we may just reuse them to ensure proper fitment, since we can't gauge them for clearances when reinstalled. but we'll see.

i got a dual pass endplate that was leaking a little bit if anyone wants :) same with a phenolic spacer that was NOT leaking :)

crank and head goes to machine shop tomorrow. keyways getting extended and the heads getting re-decked and cleaned.

think this next weekend motors going all back together, and hopefully back in the car the next

Sunburst_SS 02-23-2014 10:38 PM

good stuff!!! Bet you are ready to get that thing back on the road!

riceburner 02-23-2014 10:40 PM

SO ready, man. lol.

couple of drawbacks and its definately gonna take longer to put abck together than to take apart, but i think i'm done buying parts.

oh yeah p.s. just ordered the NBS delete bushings from levelzero. the Nuetral Balance shafts i bought used from someone are junk far as i can tell; whatcha gonna do.

Sunburst_SS 02-23-2014 10:41 PM

That's how it goes sometimes haha.

I have a build of my own starting soon......and there are always parts that you don't think of, or stuff you decide to upgrade while you are in there haha

riceburner 02-23-2014 10:45 PM

yeah it's crazy, i thought i was overthinking everyting at first, then found out i was underthinking it. haha

Sunburst_SS 02-23-2014 10:48 PM

That is almost always how it is haha.....but as long as it is worth it in the end, that's all that matters

ThexGovenor 02-23-2014 11:42 PM

Who did you buy the NBS from?

riceburner 02-23-2014 11:47 PM

I totally forget and couldnt find the messages from when i contacted him. Not an active member. And it was back in november when i bought them so not really anything i can do now

ThexGovenor 02-24-2014 12:01 AM

:( sorry to hear man...

andrewcarr1993 02-24-2014 12:10 AM

I remember the thread, he posted pics of them all scuffed up, maybe you could machine them down and run oversized bearings.

riceburner 02-24-2014 09:13 AM

Yeah i dont feel like dealing with the guesswork. Planning to cut these ones to use as b.s. deletes and then sell the stock ones lol. Bullshit

riceburner 02-24-2014 10:07 AM

Crank and head are at the machine shop

574 02-24-2014 10:16 AM

Why is the head there?

riceburner 02-24-2014 10:23 AM

There was some marring where one of the lash adjusters seems to have blown up so i cleaned it up with a dremel, and honestly the head just doesnt look that clean, theres still some gasket material on it etc so im getting it redecked and cleaned

BlackielawlessSS 02-24-2014 10:39 AM

Good call. I hate buying used heads. I am always scared I might get took.

sandman 02-24-2014 11:06 AM

I remember seeing the NBS you bought and that they were scratched to hell
