so im sick of the problems ive had with my magnaflow muffler and resonator. just over a year ago i built a full 2 1/2" exhaust with a magnaflow resonator and muffler. about 3 months ago i had to change the resonator cause it was rattling. about a month after that the car started sounding louder and raspy. i thought the resonator had broken in and this was just how it would sound, so i planned to re-install the stock muffler on 2 1/2" pipe. i crawled under the car tonight for some measurments and give the muffler a thump and its rattling, aka its junk. pisses me off that a so called quality muffler is junk in a year, but nothing i can do about it at this point.

so not content im thinking id still like a nice tone, but quiet. so being the magnaflow is junk, ill try another aftermarket muffler. what do you guys suggest ??? im looking for something with a low tone and fairly quiet.

 

do a wisper resinator( zzp i beleave) and corsa muffler is kinda quiet..

 

i had a magnaflow resonator the same size as the zzp wisper resonator, it is too big for my very low car. the car sounded good with it, but it fell apart.

 

i was gonna suggest the ZZP one too..
ummm.....custom with borla muffler then?

 

my exhaust is all custom, and right now im after a muffler not a resonator

 

the whisper res. is good enough to be a muffler...and is advertised as being able to be used for either application. regardless, since clearance is the issue and you cant use it anyway, im still saying a borla muffler would work.

 

I have always used magnaflow and have had no problems. You just got a bad one.

 

what do you guys think about turbo style mufflers??? hows the sound with them???

 

for anyone who cares, i put a dynomax super turbo muffler on (part #17733). its much quieter than the magnaflow ever was at idle, light and medium throttle, and a little quieter at full throttle. best part is its a deep tone and no rasp whatsoever.

I had the EXACT same problem happen. I kept getting a ratteling sound and was like wtf is that. Resonator fell apart, then 2 months after that the piping broke from my exhaust to muffler.

looks like your piping just rotted off. my exhaust sounded just like that prior to changing the muffler today, but it looks like the pipe inside the muffler broke loose. when my resonator went, the car sounded fine after 30 seconds running, but till then it was this giant rattling noice that would wake up the neighbors.

 

No way it rotted off it was less than a year old. Its too clean of a break also. its right along the weld.
