Maybe an Issue...help

okay, a few weeks ago, with the help of a member on this board, I installed a 2.9 pulley, put 42# injectors on, and flashed to a new tune ( similar to stage 2, but better ). At first, I didn't notice it, but now, when I go, its more jumpy..like its having a hard time accelerating, and it smells an awful lot like oil is burning.

I've been on this board awhile, although I'm not a big poster, I pretty much get on here everyday and read. So...I've seen something like this on here, and it makes me think, is it the cat? Is it time for the new exhaust...I don't know. Anyone have a clue as to why its doing this, or what I should do?

Thanks in advance

did you pop the hood to see if the dipstick popped? could be it.. if not, well there could be some other serious issues... compression and leak down test are definitely in order

yeah, I checked under the hood for the dipstick, since I was thinking, hey, that might be it...but it wasn't. So, you guys think I should do a compression and leak down test huh...

How was the leak down test done again?

It is done by placing each cylinder at top dead center compression. Then you take a leak down tester hooked up to compressed air and screw it in to the spark plug hole with the adapter that fits. Next you fill the cylinder up with compressed air and monitor the gauge on the leakdown tester. This will show you how much air you are leaking (Extended from a compression test failure) and where it is leaking from if you can hear it hissing out.

Hear it in the exhaust = Exhaust valve
Hear it in intake = intake valve
Crankcase hissing = rings leaking

91...its all they have in oklahoma. A buddy of mine on base is running the same setup and I dont think he's having any problems...although he's got a full exhaust, and an intake.

Pskyosteve sent me the tune, and we reviewed it before uploading it on my pcm...so...I dunno. Seems good to me.

The only difference, and it may be a bigger prob. than I thought...is I'm still running the stock belt. Only because we can't get the wheel off yet due to the fact when I bought the car from the dealer, they forgot to include the wheel lock ( I bought it used - I believe previous owner still has it )....so, how bad is it that I'm still running the stock belt with a 2.9 pulley, the 42# injectors, and this tune?

If the tune is actually a good tune then you're fine with the 2.9" and the 42s. Although if Pskyosteve tuned for 93 and you're running 91 with the 2.9" and the 42s that could pose a problem. On top of that, if your belt happens to slip a little (It could with the 2.9, not to much though) you would quickly lose some boost but the rpms would continue to climb. The MAF would see a loss in airflow and could cut some fuel; then when the belt catches again the boost would react fast enough to cause a buck.

I would say the problem would be more dealing with your 91 octane and the 2.9". You should probably run a step colder plug, or get some of the timing cut from the tune.
