Mechanical Boost Gauge

Ok so i have been having issues with mine ever since i got it installed.

I took the gauge out and tested it with an air compressor @ 12psi and it works.

Whats been happening is, when i start my car it stays on 0 for about 5mins never moving. After a while of driving it then starts to move. it is at 30vac when driving normally then when i get on it it moves up towards 0 depending on how much throttle i give it. but when i give it lots of gas it rises but stops at zero, it will never go above zero.

I am teed in to the only line that comes out of the intake manifold, which apparently is the one to use.

The Boost line also moves freely whin i pull on it, so i know its not pinched.

Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

Here is the Line I am T'd Into:

Is there anyother Line I Can Try?

tonight i will get another line and test it under the hood now that the gauge is out, if it doesnt work then it must be the line on the car.

Anyone else had this issue?

ok, so i tried this:

ran a line from the T, outside the car and in through the window with the gauge in my hand. It went passed 0 but off the limmiter it only went about 5psi.

Then after that worked i pulled the old line out and put this one in. And it did THE SAME THING! it stopped at 0!

so then i used the old line and ran it from the T outside the car into my window again with the gauge in my hand and that went passed 0 but just a few psi again.

i checked the grommet and it is not pinching it at all and i can move the line freely so there cannot be any kinks.

so it works when its not ran through the firewall but off the limmiter only boosts a few psi, when i run it through the firewall it will not go past 0! WTF?

does the T fitting have to be pointing up?

does the elevation of the line matter?

someone please help!

Bump***Help!

I used to have a mechanical boost guage on my turbo setup with my Grand Prix (R.I.P). I had that problem because I had my mounted the fitting too close to the intake manifold. I moved my gauge from the intake tube to the outlet lip of the turbo and the problem went away. Now to mount in on the turbo, I had to drill and tap a mounting location of course. Idk if you can mount it into your s/c lip or not but, it's just a thought.

are you putting a load on the engine or just free revving it? the hose you tapped into is the one coming off of the manifold right?

Yeh i would sudgest looking for a kink or something like that, but here is a question on the same topic. Are the stock boost lines that great or do many people upgrat them with better connectors and stuff, any input?

when i ran it outside the hood into my window it went over 0 but just a few psi that was just from neutral, does there have to be load to register good boost on a mechanical?

Me and my friend will tinker with it on sunday to see what we can do...

yeah, the supercharger won't put boost into an engine that is free revving, but if it is slow acting when you run it through the firewall, but fast acting when you run it the other way, you have a pinch in the line...same thing happened to me when I first installed the gauge. I'd pull out the vaccum line and see if there is any kinks that developed.

im guessing you are running the plastic spagetti line that comes with the gauge. id suggest running rubber vacuum hose from the engine bay to as close as you can get to the gauge, then use a short piece of the plastic line off the gauge, slide the rubber hose over the plastic hose and use a small tie strap to hold it. get vacuum line that fits tightly over the plastic hose, and you will need a different t or adaptor in the engine bay. it sounds like the plastic line is getting kinked, and once it is its junk.

so i can use a normal rubber vac line like the ones under the hood, should i run this one just inside the fire wall then go with the plastic after that?

id go as close to the boost gauge as possible, right into the pillar would be best. i find the plastic line is easy to kink when putting the pillar back in place.
