Looks like you made up your own air box mod! Most peope leave the bottom part of the air box off, looks like you drilled some holes in it. Good job for being creative.

It looks clean. I like that. you still have a cover on it which is nice and you put the holes in without a crazy ass chop job. How's it sound?

Thanks! It sounds just like a CAI.I have the drop in K&N also. The holes are 3/4 of a inch and there are 8 holes. 8 X .75 = 6 inch.So it is just like having a six inch opening.

without having the possibililty of anything larger than 3/4" crashing up into your filter... thats why I like it.

+rep for taking the time to do it right.

for those who haven't found it in the gallery:

its more like having one 3.5 inch hole, not a 6 inch hole.. but thats still a decent amount of air.

Actually a 6" circle has an area of 28.27 sq. in and 8 0.75" holes only has an area of 3.53. The math is a little bit more involved.

It does look very clean but I left mine off and just put a wire mesh on the bottom. Hopefully you don't get a CEL with the oiled K&N. I prefer the Dryflow.

Hey I'm going to school for civil engineering.. sorry couldn't help it. I just used the wire mesh on mine so if for some reason it needs to be 100% stock looking I can just slap it on. They will never be able to tell. I'm sure if you hack the box like a lot of people do to completly expose the filter you will get more whine but what I did works excellent. Sometimes I wish I didn't do it because now I get on it just to hear the whine.

lol... its kool. I am an auditor so I have been the math kid my whole life.... except for those formulas of volume and area and crap. I think pi R sq. is actually circumference.

I just pulled the silencer out of my 2.2 and holy crap I get on it just to hear the growl (yes my 2.2 has a growl to it now)

Doesn't the stock filter's base come close to covering up those holes (if it doesn't cover them up completely) ?

I cut out a "cage" on the back and outer sides of the upper assembly, put in the AEM Dryflow filter and then reattached the bottom piece as insurance in case the filter were to pop off, it can't go anywhere but bounce around an inch. I wish I would've snapped a picture when I had the fender liner out, I definately will the next time I have it opened.

I probably have 100 in˛ opened up around the filter.

What filter is that? I ended up using the AEM 21-2110DK.
