Need A New Clutch. But So Many Options
So i am going to be replacing my clutch soon. I've been researching what to get but theres so many different options so i figured id get some feedback from others. My mods are in my sig. Next year i will be running a header, downpipe, 2.5" catback and a 2.6" pulley. Also may do a TVS but thats not in the near future. I want a clutch that can hold up to using drag radials at the track but has a good pedal feel for daily driving. I thought about putting in a lightweight flywheel in there a well while it's apart. Any info would be great to help me decide.

go cheap and get a gmpp clutch. no reason to get anything more expensive with your power levels.
|
yea i have the gmpp. it bites like a mother! and it's alot cheaper.
i recommend it. i heard somewhere that it's not worth getting the lightweight flywheel though. someone chime in? and your already pullying down? you just got your stg 2! lol |
I also agree on the GMPP clutch. Ill be picking one up over winter
|
Does anyone know what the torque rating is on it? And the GMPP clutch will take the beating on a track? Like i said i am going to be running drag radials so i want it to be able to hold up.

There's really no benefit for a flywheel that only weighs a few pounds less than stock. A.) Aluminum Flywheel can NOT be resurfaced. B.) Can mess up torque transfer from motor to transmission. Causing more torque to move to the transmission, instead of absorbing it. There's a lot of reasons I wouldn't get it. Stick with stock, and just resurface it. Good as new. |
I have the GMPP clutch upgrade and love it!!! I'd definitely recommend it for someone who has mild-medium upgrades. And you can't beat the price!

It says its good for 300hp. Is that whp or motor? All you guys with the GMPP clutch, do you go to the track much?
|
Maxim x has gmpp clutch and tracks his 450 whp Baltimore every weekend. You wont have a problem
|
I got the Exedy clutch and flywheel. i recommend it if you plan on keeping the car.
|
I am running mid 12's on TVS w/ bias-ply slicks at track. Running the GMPP and I wouldn't run any other clutch. Will be low 12's soon as I can get more seat time to lower my 60's.
You do not want a lighter flywheel for drag racing. Keep the OEM. |

These tires are dead hooking and the GMPP is grabbing hard. You will be fine with the GMPP Clutch.

Looking to do similar upgrades and i need a new clutch as mine is still stock and it is starting to go. Is the consensus still good regarding the GMPP clutch option? Its been a few years since op, and wanted to see if there has been any news/issues etc regarding this part...Thanks for the info!

yer cheapest option would be buying my stock clutch
but seriously, gmpp all the way. also if u need sum parts i got the flywheel, throw out bearing, shift linkage braket, and clutch pipe. u will need a new or resurfaced flywheel so idk if u want one for cheap hit me up :D |

I ended up going with the GMPP clutch and ended up throwing a TVS on. No slip at all making 320whp.
|
Thread from the dead, lol.

The GMPP is pretty much the LNF clutch and those guys run em to about 300whp so yea....
Glad to hear it holds at those levels. |
