New 2.0 Ecotec
New 2.0 Ecotec
Alright guys i dont know how many of you guys already knew about this but i found out a new version of the 2.0L Ecotec that is in the SS/SC is under development.
I was reading the April 2006 edition of GM High-Tech Performance magazine and came across the following article-
"GM Goes Direct Injection With Ecotec Turbo!
The General is flexing its Powertrain muscles with a high-tech 2.0-liter Ecotec hairdryer mill that pumps out an astounding 2.1 horses per cubic inch.
Based on a stronger Gen II version of the Ecotec, this 122-inch engine features a forged steel crank, forged rods and pistons, and a unique-for-direct-inject aluminum head with sodium-filled exhaust valves. The fuel injectors mount in the head itself, and inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber at much higher pressures (over 1,200 psi) than in standard fuel-injected engine. This technology enables better fuel economy, fewer emissions, and higher power levels over standard EFI.
When coupled with variable valve timing, a twin-scroll turbo and an air-to-air intercooler, this 2.0-liter pumps out 260 horses and 260 ft-lbs of torque!
It will be dropped into the 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP; as the current Solstice weighs in at under 3,000 pounds, the GXP should be a rocket!"
Those are some pretty beefy numbers for a stock Ecotec, especially for going into the light Solstice, and who knows maybe Chevy will offer it as an option for the Cobalt! What do you guys think about this little power house?
Also, on another note if you guys check out the magazine yourself read the article entitled "The Hoss" because that camaro is one of our family friend's.

I've heard both that the Solistice GXP will have the S/C 2.0 or the T/C 2.0. To me and many other people, most likely they will keep it S/C. However, i'm hoping they do go the t/c route. All we'd need to have is some company, or possibly even GM, to make us some tubing to fit our car.
guys think realistically though. even if this particular motor will not work in the cobalt, it should be far easier to tune a cobalt with a similar turbo setup if there is already a motor like this out, right?

They would never put the sc motor in a reardrive car....
If they did the belt or the intake tube would be hidden right next to the firewall. This is also why the 3800 sc never made it into a camaro.
F*CK. LOL why didn't they make the cobalt ss/tc?!?! Delaying the GM Staged kits now tc the solistice. WTF. I'm so pissed. I'm guessing the 2.0 tc engine has forged pistons now to accomodate the extra hp? If so we could use those as a direct replacement right?
RWD under 3000lbs? Impressive also. Twin charge is a kool concept but witch charge will outcharge the other with time and wear? Two different setups are crying for mistakes if mixed together if you know what I mean.
Weight sucks.

From what I understand from my friend who works for GM/SAAB development there will be a Cobalt t/c version in the future. The 2.0 Ecotec that is in the SAAB, Saturn, Opel, Chevy and Vauxhaul will all share the turbo platform in the end.
If you think about it the SAAB runs an almost 100% identical motor to the Cobalt and runs direct ignition, Turbo, FMIC all stock. And if you look at the new 9-3 Aero its a V6 FWD twin screw turbocharger... see where i'm going here???
So hang in there becuase I dont think the turbo will be far away for the Cobalts.

I am heaing that it is a strong possibility in the '09 year line up. But I have been looking at the exhaust manifold config of the SAAB and the Cobalt and it looks like the turbo manifold should bolt right up and the rest of the motor is the same. So I am sure this will be an easy transition for GM to make.
With GM moving SAAB away from Trionic and back to Motronic it means that the factory tuning used in te stable platform on the SAAB will be able to used on the rest of the line up as well.
blah blah....
everyone remember that...
"hey the 06's are going to be turbo!!!"
or
"hey the 07's are going to be turbo, i have inside info!!!"
or
"hey the 08's are going to be turbo, they are changing the model lineup!!!"
and now.... drumroll please, it's almost time for.....
