NEW! Stage 2 Questions.

Hey Guys!

Im new to the forum and had a couple questions about going with the stage two package from gm. I was wondering how does the tune work? Can I do it at home or does it need to be taken to a shop to have the tune instaled? Another thing, since the smaller pully and the gain of boost do you guys do headstuds? I looked at the gm performance catalog and it is not a part of the kit nor does it even mention them.

Thanks for all of the help!

I would get ZZPs stage 2 or 3 instead of GMs.

Headstuds are not needed at all.

Whatever brand you go with youll be happy. i just did gm and am pretty happy with it. If you go zzp route go s3 with cooling mods and do it all in 1 shot. With gms2 you still should consider cooling mods for optimal performance especially im warmer regions. Good luck to ya.

Lol.

Buy a spare pcm (50-100 bucks usually). Send it to zzp or ottp . They put a base file on it with a 'tune'. Then u simply swap pcms. Buy an lsj build book. All info needed on doing the kit.

Mind you the tune is canned and recommended to get specifically calibrated for your own car esp with other mods done (idk if you do)

Or just put on parts and get tuned from the getgo lol

No studs needed for with any of the stage kits that run on the stock supercharger, im running gm stg 2 parts just not the tune, id say go with zzp stage kit fot more power and cheapet bug gm will work dont expect a whole lot out of the tune tho its runs rich as **** and u can expect around 235 to 240 whp from it. If u find someone later on that is good with hp tuners get a custom tune down the road for more power and lean the tune back out so its not too rich.

Thanks for the info guys!
The car does have full exhaust and a cai. I just had a clutch, pressure plate, slave, and throwout bearing installed thats rated for 300hp. This is my daily so I dont want to go to crazy, just looking to be around 260hp.

If u want 260ish ur gonna need a custom tune, any can tune is not gonna give u ur full power out of a setup. If i was u id just get zzp stage 3 kit with either dual pass or zzp heat exchanger u should be 250ish from the can tune and then just get ur tune adjusted later for that 260+ ur looking for.

You won't come near 260whp on the GMS2 kit or any of the equivalent kits out there. You'd probably need least full bolt ons, bigger injectors, and smaller pulley to come near that with a custom tune. Or E85/Meth.

GMS2 should get you to about 240ish, can milk a little more out of it if you get a custom tune done on it.

As for your question about the tune. GM does it, they basically just do a flash on your car. You could also find a HP Tuner to do it for you if they have the file or to custom tune your car. One good thing about GMS2 is its designed to not eff your car up.

He basically has bolt ons listed in the message u quoted, just needs to add cooling mods too whatever kit he goes with.

A lot of people try to emphasize that cooling mods are something that you have to have when dowsizing the pulley, but unless you race frequently and constantly shifting at 7000 RPMs its not a necessity with the GM Stage 2 or even Stage 3 kits IMO. Just everyday driving will be fine

I had a friend that is running basicly a zzp stage 3 kit that had a kink in his hose line and didnt know it, his iat2 shot up to 200 before i fixed it for him that is what no cooling will do for u on a 2.8 pulley.
