Oil and coolant in my intake FML
Leak down test showed 100% loss in cyl 1. I could hear hissing coming from the intake and the oil cap. I dont know if i should pull the head to look or just put in a used engine....
Pull the head it's a very easy job and doesn't take long. As for buying a used lsj, don't because you don't really know how it was treated or maintained. I say pull the motor, tear her apart, buy diamonds(10:1 or 10.5:1) with total seal rings, new bearings from gm, oem or cometic head gasket, get block honed, arp head studs, new rod bolts, new cam bolts ect, throw it back together and have some fun!!!!

OP, I was almost ready to do what you were going to do with a long block but this is just more fun when you build it yourself.
getting my sleeved block back as soon as mrbelvedere picks it up from the machine shop. I have all the parts listed above for just such an install.

I'm thinking this is my problem. I see nothing else so far and I can't tell where the head gasket failed. Looks like I'm going pistons. Also

No. Not everyday it's actually been a long time since I have. I'm putting a list together of all the parts I need tonight for the rebuild as long as the sleeve is still ok. Does anyone know if I have to pull the timing cover to replace that tensioner?
no you don't but your gonna have to to fix all the carnage under the cover and don't buy pistons thinking they are just drop in and roll if the bore isent within spec your fucked

I just moved from Cleveland to newyork. I had to leave my car in Cleveland because of its condition. I had it towed to a Chevy dealer to have them finish the year down and rebuild the engine for me. They didn't even pull the car in the shop and told me my cylinder is oval and it's cheaper to buy an engine then to resleeve this one. I never measured or checked the cylinder so I don't know of this is true. I would like some opinions, buy complete engine, rebuild this one?
they have the toolkit to resleeve the engine and cut the sleeve down in the car as for replacing the engine I would get a new one before I got a high milage used on the price wouldent be that different
