Ordering My New Exhaust system(Updated w/Pictures)

I'm going custom with my exhaust. Going with a magnaflow. Can't wait any longer for Magnaflow to make a kit although word has it the RKSport Kit on rksport.com is almost the same one Magnaflow will be offering except it's a single muffler.

I think the dual exhaust on a inline 4 cylinder is a waste of money IMO. I mean, not to bash RKSport but for just piping and two mufflers and have it cost about $470? Ouch! I can buy the same mufflers online thru Magnaflowonline.com and get the Madrel Bent piping for less than 1/2 of what RK Sport kit costs and that doesn't include shipping!

The way I see it, Rk Sport is using this muffler on there kits.

Magnaflow Part # 14813, they are identical in looks and performance.

Input on this is apperciated. Best part of all it only costs $100 per muffler ($200 if I go two but a waste of money IMO and my mandrel custom piping will cost maybe $100 at most, getting good deal).

if you do that you need to put a resonator on your car or something... those fart cans sound like your car has come down with what i refer to as "mad-weedeater syndrome" bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh bleh bleh bleh blehheheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

doesn't matter if it's a $15 muffler or a $400 muffler, a fart can is still a fart can

www.magnaflowonline.com - Authorized dealer. Muffler was $100 and the shipping was about $8. Pretty good if you ask me. Most dealers in my area want $150 just to buy it

On the topic of the post above this one, how is this a fart cannon? It's a performance exhaust. It's listed as a performance exhaust and sure doesn't sound like a fart cannon to me. If this is a fart cannon then how come I can get gains anywhere between 8-15HP out of it? I think you've seen too many of these types of Exhaust systems on the F&F.

those things are the new age "cherry bomb" lol

but hey.. everyone's got their own opinion

just wandering though, what makes those cans a performance exhaust? (not being snide at all) they're just a can with a straight shot through them with some wadding material around the edges, just like those cherry bombs, and of course they give you some power, but that doesn't mean they sound good

if i'm wrong on that, could someone post a cutout of one of these things? cause i'm just making a generic assupmtion that all fart cans are the same

Magnaflows are plummbed to have a straight thru design for the most part(easy in, easy out). The mufflers we have on our cars have to do some work to go thru the wicked pathyways to exit out the tail pipe. The note will sound deeper because there isn't restrictions.

I heard a delta series 40 on the Cobalt SS from a sound clip on the next. It sounds horrible, I don't know what to make of it, between a pack of angry wasps and a v8 Z28. Unfortuantly, the tone will sound almost the same regardless which one you go thru IMO.

The round " Fart Can " will sound way different than a Oval bodied muffler. Like stated above a $4 round muffler will sound just like a $400 round muffler with different tips making a slight difference.

Why not use a Oval muffler and pick out your own tip style? The added roving material will eliminate alot of the high pitched sounds most people hate.

IMO These cars deserve better than a round style muffler.

We have that exhaust on my wife's sunfire it is LOUD! we did have to add a resonator to tone the buzz down so ya that is a loud exhaust! If you are interested we are selling the mufflers only off the exhaust.....probably like $75 shipped each....

Trust me, already in the works. When I rip the new "old" muffler off the cobalt I am going to grind/saw it in half and see how restricted Chevy has it.

What do you guys think about just cutting off the muffler and straight piping it? Not saying that I'm thinking about doing this but j/w what everyone has to say about that.

If the car was only used on the track, then I'd say go for it.

Update

So I got the magnaflow installed.... big mistake! It sounds horrible! It was worse then a fart cannon. do yourself a favor..... WAIT until Magnaflow or anyone for that matter comes out with something. It was horrible.... Worst part was the guy installed it incorrectly and it melted part of my rear valance ;( , stock one is going on for now again.

That sucks, was it the one that was made for the car or did you put the kit together yourself?

It was a kit I put together. I think it needs another resinsator at the muffler.

Actually, after I called the guy, he explained that he fixed the valance issue and made it where it wasn't hidding behind it. He said the sound was horrible only because it was underneath the car at that point and was intensifying by 10x times.

He is going to let me try the new one out (without melting my body kit for once) for a whole week) he said If I don't like it he will put the stock one back on.

It didn't sound bad after when it hit high RPM's just low RPM's it was bad. Tell you what, our exhaust system puts out SOOOOOO Much heat. He said that when he went to take it out of the garage the guy that was helping him said his pants got really hot and he was standing 5 feet away.

The sad thing was, I listen to my exhaust and listen to the magnaflow website exhaust. Virtually the same.

One more thing to point out, more HP gain overall it seems like.
