Poly control arm bushings...

I had a few questions about these, but figured they are pretty much required since I am going Stage 2 with I/H/E. I see I can purchase them from jbodyperformance.com and see both them and many people here have noticed they almost completely eliminate wheelhop. This is what I want but had a few questions before I purchased them.

1.) Where can they be installed at? Should I have my dealer do it, and what would something like this cost for instalation?

2.) Is it a difficult instalation and can it be done wrong or have any negative side effects? (bad ruff idle? Etc.)

3.) What about your warranty? Would this void warrantly on any parts? I Know that your warranties not void unless the part installed caused the problem. Whats the potential of this type of part causing any issues?

4.) Anything else I should know?

I got mine installed at the dealership. They did an excellent job and only charged me 1.5 hours labor. (The instructions said 40 minutes per side so 10 minutes over that isn't bad).

You NEED a press to get the new ones in. Considering the control arms are aluminum I didn't want to take any chances messing with it myself. Aluminum can be cracked pretty easily I believe. Other than damaging the control arms or bushings themselves I don't think it can be done wrong.

Before ordering the parts I got a quote for installation and asked about warranty. Dealer said there would be no warranty issues. There's nothing that control arm bushings could possibly screw up. They could go bad I guess and of course that wouldn't be covered, but I doubt it - they're top quality!

You can also order them from Intense. http://www.intense-racing.com/Mercha...LSJ_Suspension

It will be cheaper and you'll get them faster becuase they won't have to be shipped from Canada.

Another thing...you'll be glad you put them in. Wheel hop will be almost eliminated.

Sweet, thanks for the info. I begrudged my dealer because of my intake, but I figure I will give them one more chance. I think Ill do stage 2 and these bushings at the same time maybe a month from now.

I get stage 1 installed next week, and I will also have my summer tires put back on as well as an oil change. Then Ill wait for my next check to do the bushings / stage 2.

Thanks for all the info peoples, appriciated.

Now you tell me! I ordered from JBP on the 3rd and the estimated delivery date is the 12th! According to their online tracker, the last event was the acceptance of the package for delivery on the 4th...

On a side note, my dealer quoted $300 total to install stage 2, ZZP motor mount, front transmission mount, and the bushings. A small shop I found around here wants $89 for the motor mount, $179 for the front transmission mount, and $129 per bushing for a grand total of $526 + tax (stage 2 install not included, I'd still get the dealer to do that for warranty purposes). Never thought the best price would come from a dealer...

Wow. The tranny mount took about 4 minutes to do. Bushings per side was about 20 minutes. $440 for about an hours worth of work...

The bushings, do you get any hard vibrations while idling? I heard something goes that but I dont know if it was bushings or the tranny mount.

How hard would it be for someone who can install an intake to install an engine mount? Equal or more difficult?

You could do the engine or tranny mount yourself no problem. I just used a 2x4 and a floor jack to support the motor and transmission assembly. Not lift, just support. Then it is 7 total bolts to replace both the motor and tranny mount.

Is it motor MOUNTS or MOUNT that is being replaced. I figured thre was a main mount or something and all the other mounts would hold it in place while you change the one. I guess this is wrong, you need to support the egine or risk it falling?

You will most definitely notice vibrations. Before I had to look at the tach to see if the car was on (not really but it is quiet with the windows up and stock exhaust) Now you know without question. Vibration can be felt in the steering wheel and in the seat. It isn't really bad though, I consider it a fair trade-off. I think it is more the tranny mount than the control arm bushings.

Does anyone have just the control arm bushings installed??

I am curious on how well they work and how bad the vibrations are when no other mounts are used.

Thanks

I have only the control arm bushings done and I did a full out launch, got two small hops and then nothing but spin. I was on the stock rubber and it was 35 degrees out. On the exact same road and spot I tried racing a GTI last fall (about 45 degrees) and I looked like a damn fool because I didn't go anywhere, just sat there hopping like a maniac. Stupidly I tried to 'gas it through' as you can guess that didn't help. LUCKILY I didn't break anything.

Since the weather has warmed up slightly (low 50s) I haven't even gotten the two small hops out of it. Nothing but spin

Exactly what happened to me. I tried to do a burnout, got to small, quick hops then rubber.
It was a bit chilly out for me as well. Walk the clutch out just a tad and there is no hop.
