Pre stage 2 install Jitters

Ok so I finally got my stage 2 kit via gmpartsdirect.com I got it for $577 shipped. I want the dealership to do the install so I can keep any and all warranties. I called them to make the appointment and the guy is barley concerned about what I want done he just wants to know when he can get me in. I feel like I am in a good position to be ripped off. I wanted to ask how many installs they have done like this and also ask them about reflashing the computer or what ever, just because I like to know what’s going on. I dident get to ask anything because the guy rushed me off the phone once I told him I could come in next Tuesday. Im concerned there gona either do it wrong, or charge me an arm and a leg for it. Or worse both. Does anyone have any advice on things to ask or look for when I go there or am I just being totally paranoid?

You need to call back and find out how much it's going to cost at the very least IMO.

I called weeks ago and spoke to a different guy and he said he thinks 3 hrs labor, but when I asked this guy he was like what ever. I just don’t like getting the feeling people don’t care, especially when Im spending a lot of money to get it done.

If they're not willing to let you know these things, tell them you're going to take it to a different dealership. There are PLENTY of experienced chevy dealerships that would be willing to be more open with their customers.

Your absolutely right but i though i would give this dealership the benefit of the doubt because not only did i buy the car there but 2 of my personal friends are salesmen there and i thought i could kinda have them look after my car, i haven't been able to get in touch with either of them yet though. i think i might just be paranoid but i cant help it i dont want to spend all this money to have it skrewed up. Thank you to all the quick reply's. i will prob. end up going down there and talking to them in person so i feel good about the whole thing, ill let you guys know what happens if you want. also does anyone have any info on what the reflash is doin to the car when they do it???

get a price quote, get it in writing and hold them to it...

I got a number of things installed at mine, 3 hours of labor quoted and I got the car back 8 hours later because it was their first time - however, I only paid for 3 hours labor...

The reflash reprograms your car's computer with new parameters for the bigger injectors and higher redline. Your car will run like ass if they install the injectors and don't do the re-flash (which takes about 5 minutes)

Also, I wouldn't let them do it if they havn't done one yet cause they might mess up the pully install (what with all the yanking on your supercharger they need to do)

My dealer screwed up on the flash and the car was in there for 4 days. Experience is everything IMO

I was just quoted over the phone for the st2 install. $440. XtremeKirk told me about them cuz thats where he had his done so I'm figuring your dealer should be in this price range.

they said 3hrs over the phone weeks ago. ok so heres the story from the beginning i called them asking prices to c if it would be cheaper to buy st2 offline and just have them do the install or if it would be cheaper to have them order the part for me and do the install this way i dident have to deal with anything. it turns out i would save 200 bucks by ordering it myself, so of coarse thats what i did. so it was all over the phone and i have nothing in writing for the labor times but if they charge me 3 hrs and do it right ill be happy with it. it just sux putting your car in someone elses hands who u know probally does so many cars a day and they dont care about yours like you do. i would do it myself if the whole warranty thing was not an issue.

^^they're a dealership - they screw it up, they pay for it... "Certified Chevrolet Technicians" or however their saying goes...

I hear ya though about nervousness. Mine was the first for my dealership too - I'm always going in and asking about GMPP parts that they don't even have in their system... ex - dual pass endplate - they don't have a clue. But yea, I order all my GM parts from CED - Tom & CED =

the dealer was probably really busy when u called, when u go in, ask to speak to the shop foreman, he'll run through everything with you. or ask to speak to the tech whos gonna be workin on ur car, if they have no clue what ur talkin about, walk out

Dude on a weekday if you leave after rush, say 9ish, you should be able to get to Bergen county in an hour and a half tops. I am from Levittown and I used to make that drive.

For someone who really knows what they are doing and will quote you a better price it might be worth it.

What dealer BTW are you talking about going to on LI?

Here in California the dealer charged $300 for the stage 2 upgrade and threw the GMPP exhaust and extruded manifold on also. I dont consider too bad in my case as we also got the stage 2 kit freebie because I loaned my car trailer to the parts manager for a couple months when im not using it. Its just a hourly labor charge for the install and every dealer has a different book rate for labor with Califoirnia the highest im sure. Service labor here is $125-150/hour.

I work for a Chevy Dealership in Northeastern Pennsylvania and I know the last stage 2 kit that I did we charged the guy 2 hours becuase that is what the book says. It took longer than 2 hours, but we only charged him 2 hours. And we sold him the kit and it was delivered here from GM for $550 if I recall correctly. But the bitch of the whole install was getting the pulley on and off (mostly on). But other than that it was a fairly easy install. I wish I could have gotten more than 2 hours for it, but thats what they quoted him so thats what they stuck by. If your quoted a price, a good dealership will stick by that quote .... just remember that! And anyone who is iffy on what to tell you they are going to do doesn't sound like a person i'd want to deal with (even though I do all my own work). Hope that helped.

P.S. Labor time here is $75.00 an hour, I feel bad for some of you California guys with the $125.00 - $150.00 an hour rates....

How much did they end up charging you for the install? I had my stage flash done there. They did that fine. I wouldnt be too worried they seem like a pretty legit dealership.
